Re: looking at a Igso480
Gary Barber@outlaw has the parts for the GSO480. I have a GSO 480 I agree they are a work horse, with the right prop and gear reduction mine is pretty good on fuel as long as I'm just cruising. If I lay into it with the twin Aircraft Carbs it will drink the fuel

Re: Need help GSO 480 oil issues
I never updated the post, it turns out I had three bad oil injectors in the cylinders free flowing oil off the main oil journal, ended up replacing bearings while I had it apart but they didn't seem bad. It appeared once the oil thinned it wouldn't open the bypass to the cooler thinning out the oil ...

I used the Mechanical to Digital sending unit Faria Sending Part Number 90901. They run about $60 but it will work with your Faria Gauge. It screws on directly where your mechanical tach cable would One wire to ground one to the tach your done

Sena 20 motorcycle intercoms work great on a peltor ear muffs from Home Depot or Amazon. They are easy to make yourself have great range and many features to utilize to include bluetooth to phone and music . the Sena 10 is ok but the range is limited and limited to four users the Sena 20 can link 8 ...

Re: Gso-480 oil pressure problems
I had the same problem with mine, as the oil thinned I would lose pressure and the oil temp would raise. I pulled the motor to replace the rod bearings which weren't in bad shape so I replaced the mains as well. They were a little worn but not bad. What I did find where three out of the six Cylinder...

Re: Gps with satellite images???
If you have poor signal on the phone buy a $100 tablet and download the app off line maps works great. Be aware iPads don't have a built in gps but the cheaper ones seem to work fine and you can download what ever maps you want, Google,Bing and what ever else you can find. I have a Acer which works ...

Re: cylinder Oil injectors on GSO-480
Thanks I was having issues adding the photo, They are the cylinder cooling nozzles which have a regulator spring and ball bearing inside to avoid from free flowing, three of them were obviously not closing and were bleeding pressure and volume right off the mains especially as the oil thinned. I cou...

cylinder Oil injectors on GSO-480
Recently I have had a problem with my oil pressure dropping and temp going up once the engine get warm, several people have told me it might be a Rod bearing causing the problem. I decided to replace the rod bearings which were not to bad, and figured while it was apart to replace the mains which we...

Re: Big Trouble Brewing?
If there is pressure in the case unless you have a good locking oil dip stick, you would shoot the dipstick right out of the block, I had a blown 327 which blew the dip stick right out of the engine due to blow-by.

Re: Need help GSO 480 oil issues
Good news does not appear to be a Main Bearing or Rod bearing. I placed a oil pressure gauge on the back of the engine and received the same read as at the pump, as the pump pressure decrease so did the rear pressure which matched. Based on that I figure there is a bad bearing in the Gear Box on the...

Re: Need help GSO 480 oil issues
The funny thing is the CHT temperature is consistent 350-378 degrees never even reaching 400 degree's I do have a IR gun and forgot to bring it today. I'm leaning toward maybe a oil circulation issue or possible a ground / gauge issue. If it is an oil circulation issue not exactly sure where to look...

Re: Need help GSO 480 oil issues
Kinda odd never have had an issue with the oil temp going over 180. this all occurred out of the blue with no warning after switching to electronic gauges, is it possible an oil ring might have broke causing the oil to heat? If it was blow by I couldn't see it heating the oil (16 qt) as fast as it d...

Need help GSO 480 oil issues
Took the boat out the last two times oil pressure is 70psi to start, then as the motor gets hot the oil temp raises and the pressure drops to 40 running and 20 at idle. CHT staying at 350 degrees. My oil temp rapidly raises over 200 degrees on e it reaches 180. The only thing I did was switch gauges...

Faria makes a sending unit which bolts right onto where the cable would and you can utilize a electronic Marine Tach

Re: starter getting real hot and wont crank boat
What kinda starter are you running? When I bought my boat It had a Nippondenso starter on it and I would run into the same problem or due to the gearing I would snap off the ears of the starter being pot metal and stripped my ring gear. I did a little research and found a standard Chevy small block ...
