Re: Total Chaos used boat purchase info wanted

no info on boat owner but a leak down or even compression test wouldn't hurt. if it's reasonable compression and has been sitting for a few years you might want to take off the carb and clean it up (bowl and jet).
just my 2 cents.

Re: CHT Gauge which one ? Westach or Micro Flight 1000

just a few thoughts for you, if your doing a lot of spring running the snow is usually of the ice and the vibrations are awful on electric gauges. They look nice on the dash but you might think about mechanical gauges mounted on the motor, specifically oil temp and pressure. I have to replace my ele...

Re: Pacemaker ignition system

I have reasonable knowledge of my 540 but am not a mechanic by any means, Rodney mailed my pacemaker ignition to me in Ontario. I did have him make my plug cables and it took me about 4 hours to put the system in. I may miss something but basically: 1 remove mags and replace with cover plates provid...

Re: one wire alternator (airtec i think)

yes but I have a fuse on the alternator charge lead to protect battery and electronic ignition from spiking or ground issues. I was checking charge lead for power output with motor running on cold side of fuse and continuity with motor off. I should have mentioned I had a fs in the lead, thanks and ...

thanks for the response, all wires check with the meter. 12 volts going in on green and nothing coming back on the red. just ordered a new alternator.

one wire alternator (airtec i think)

I feel foolish posting questions like this because I feel like I should already know. my alternator isn't charging and before I replace/rebuild it I want to make sure it is wired properly. I'm pretty sure it is an airtec alternator (it has a partial sticker on it) and it is on a sv 540. I have a red...

Re: vinage canadian airboats

some do have guards but I've never run one on my boats for a couple reasons. our seats are very low, about 2 inches off the bottom of the boat so when your in it, its like being in a cockpit unlike you guys being up high right in front. someone builds one every couple years and keeps running into th...

Re: vinage canadian airboats

kind of cool how everything evolves. In the early 70's we came up our new shape once fiberglass was a little more main stream the pointed bow helps with coming out of the water on to the ice when the ice is all broken up and the round on the sides stopped our boats from flipping. the early ones were...

Re: vinage canadian airboats

just for the record, that's 100 plus on snow, after 130 (mph) they feel like they are about to swap ends. We probably never get over 35-40 on water. I've seen those race boats you guys build, they blow my mind

I hope it isn't out of line to post this video link in this forum since they aren't really airboats. but it is a bit of my local history and I figure you might get a kick out of the horse drawn wagon with the Florida or bust sign on it. 1962 [youtube][https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gi3tOoDc4m8/yout...

PACEMAKER IGNITION

I just want to share a great experience and a top shelf product. I have just run my first hour with pacemakers electronic ignition and what a difference over mags. The ease of cold and hot starts makes this ignition a must have for me, the added power, throttle response and fuel efficiency are just ...

Re: going to a lower pitch: yes, no, maybe so?

You mentioned that you are running on ice and snow, are you running the shoulder seasons during freeze-up and thaw? I don't have any suggestions for what pitch prop to run but do want to comment on composite vs. wood. I want to predicate my thought by saying that I run primarily during freeze-up and...

thanks for the response, I should have been a bit more descriptive in my first post. my average starting temp is around -10 c or 0 f. thanks for all the help over the years guys, not a lot of people to bounce ideas off around here.

thanks all, pulled the mags the other day and sent them out, I don't go past the points on my own. the lesson learned, it doesn't hurt to have a few spare mags around.

metal filings inside mag???

winter is just about over and its been a great one, lots of running and its almost time to put the boat in the water. I was running around yesterday and lost spark from one mag, after removing the cover I fount that the points weren't opening but sadly there was a bunch of metal filings inside the m...

carb heat air intake question for winter running

well, its starting to cool off and my season is just starting. I was out the other day and a guy commented that I had my air intake facing the wrong direction. the theory was that because the air intake was at the back of the engine and closer to the prop, the prop suck would actually create a vacuu...

Re: any comments on this design?

I love the thought that you don't need the extra weight of the rudder but is it strong enough to endure the test of time. I live on an island and am going through freeze up right now so transportation is limited. the marina is 15 miles away so I would only ever use my 16/540 but for working around t...
