Re: Lean/rich settings for 180Lycoming

these guys are right on....run it at full rich and use it to kill the engine at full lean.....if you lean it out while cruising and all of a sudden need to stab the throttle it will usually stall out and fall flat on her face and that is not a good on an airboat!!!!!

well I sure think if he could build them for a 6cy he could build it for 8 cyl.....might be a hell of an idea there

Re: IO-720 Lycoming Fuel Injection Alternatives

I don't think any aircraft carb at least that I am aware of would handle 720 cubic inches....couldn't flow enough air or fuel...I have seen a super charged 480 engine that was equipped with dual MA-6AA CARBS side by side on a Y pipe into a single pipe up to the super charger

Re: IO-720 Lycoming Fuel Injection Alternatives

yes sir you are certainly right...maybe the difference between upstack and regular exhaust or the airplane or helicopter application of the engine...either way it sure wont work on your engine his carb was just a little forward of where the oil filter is on your setup....good luck to ya hope ya find...

Re: IO-720 Lycoming Fuel Injection Alternatives

if I remember right the adapter on this 720 was bolted to the front of the sump where the servo bolted up...looked like 4-5" dia aluminum pipe tur ned up 90 degrees with a plate welded to the pipe to accept the carb.....it was not an upstack but I don't know what difference the sump is on an up...

Re: IO-720 Lycoming Fuel Injection Alternatives

seen a 720 in Nebraska some years ago that had a real nice adapter welded up similar to the units they use on the SC480'S ....it was hooked up to the front of the sump intake with a 4 barrel carb mounted on top out in front of and in between the mags...seemed to work really well but man did that eng...

Re: Need HELP!!

Is the starter turning it over? If so I would say make sure the mag is not grounded. There is a small wire coming out of the mag or mags if it is grounded that is how you turn them off. Whatever you do just make sure you don't put power to the mags because you'll burn them up, when they are ON they...

Re: Need HELP!!

you said it wont crank over so I assume your saying the starter will not turn the engine over so it will start....so starter, starter switch or wiring to starter

if your main concern is keeping dirt daubers and the like out of the carb and not so much filtering the air I would suggest a spark arrestor set up

Re: Boat would not start in the cold.

so when it doesn't squirt just flows it out is it air density that stops it from starting when cold ...well Ted..... that's kind of my theory...... if the pump don't squirt then the engine has to draw the fuel out of the carb up into the cyls and the dense heavy cold air makes it hard to get the fu...

yea ted....a good MA4-5 pump will shoot fuel 8-10ft so it would really get it up in the engine for starting and acceleration

Re: Boat would not start in the cold.

when its cold even starting fluid shoot at the carb doesn't work, it is sparking. just had the carb redone. Last time it did this I was at the camp nothing worked. It is like no fuel get sucked up the intake. We put a new accelerator pump on the carb and bam it started no mater how cold. A fuel pri...
