Re: Lycoming vs. Continental

i'm no expert by any means. I've owned 3 Lycoming powered airboats and one continental [gpu] boat.

so I like the gpu powered boat 3 to 1 over the Lycomings. lol

Re: 220 won't idle ?

well, guess it's running better now, musta passed the trash. still idleing around 700 rpm's, I just hadn't slowed it down yet. ran to feed on deer lease last night with 11 sacks of corn/rice bran in the boat. stepped on a mud flat and never checked up till I was where I needed to go. my old 220 is b...

I couldn't find a part # on my starter, so I just went to town and got it rebuilt for about $100. works like a champ now. of course, I found the new replacement starter I got several years ago and forgot that I had bought it. lol was sitting next to the new replacement mag and alt I keep in the clos...

Re: 220 won't idle ?

thanks guys for the tips. I've got the rebuild/renew kits in, but since I played around with the carb settings this week on the deer lease, the boat is running great. It may have passed some trash or not, we will see. I was running around with me and 10 sacks of feed like I owned the place! lol that...

Re: GPU oil catch can setup

when I got my gpu boat, the previous owner had a catch can setup. I forget how it was setup. I took it off, ran 3 vent hoses to the top of the back of the cage, and started running some lucas oil stabilizer. than I drove it like I stole it. that was several years ago. best motor I ever had.

Re: Lycoming 320 starting procedure

I always ran a electric on my lycomings. a Carter brand. I hate electric fuel pumps. I run a 13$ manual fuel pump on my GPU. if I ever get another Lycoming, it will have a manual fuel pump. anyway.... on a new boat I usually get a label machine and label all the switches and I put a red arrow on the...

Re: 220 won't idle ?

I agree with the junk in the tank thing, but I am pretty sure the fuel is legit and my racor filter with the clear bottom has been drained a couple times and I can't find any debris in the fuel. unless a hose is coming apart between the filter and the carb. the idle screws fit loose, I bet when I ch...

well, it started doing it again yesterday. cut my workday in the swamp short cuz I was worried about all the starting I was doing was gonna kill my battery. boat wouldn't idle. on the way back to the landing the motor seemed to clear up. when I got home I ran the ide screws [both 1 turn out] in and ...

220 won't idle ?

Hey, my old faithfull 220 gpu is running great on top and has no miss that I can tell, but won't idle but for a second then kills. fires right back up, just won't idle. I've had this boat for 5 years or so and I can crank it up and after it's warm, will usually idle all day long. I ran some hard mar...

I use hyd lines on the boats I've had. I can get them made locally whatever size/length I need and they last years. I've never had any issue running motor oil thru a hyd oil hose.

2700-2800 rpm's. that's where I have run my gpu boat since I had it. runs good but does struggle a bit to step in deep water with a load.[short 12' boat]. I am talking myself into playin with the prop and getting it around 3000 rom's to see what's what. somebody talk me out of it. or talk me into it...
