Re: 8cyl gpu convert or not

Most ground powers cranks are not very strong. I would be a little hesitant on converting an 8 cyl because of the crank and extra length.

Re: To Counter Or Not (weights, that is)

Back in the day all we had was wood props. The rumor was that the motor would rev up quicker without the weights. The wood dampened the harmonics so it wasn't an issue. I also heard rumor that there was a builder that had lots of broken cranks when the composite props became main stream do to the re...

I thought that you were banned from that area if you couldn't produce an airboat registration dating back to 1988.. I used like to ride out of Mitchell' launch and ride to coconuts and lost pines.

Re: Rebuild, replace, or convert a 220???

Yes if you look at the crank you will see the radius because they cut the crank inside of the radius. But the only reason a crank is chromed is because it was damaged beyond .020 and was not serviceable. So they build it back up to specs using chrome. If it is a .020/.020 then you know if they added...

Re: Rebuild, replace, or convert a 220???

If you remove the radius journal of a crankshaft it is prone to break due to a sharp edge. All cranks in Aircraft engine have a sloped journal. When a crank has been chromed that shaft has been ground well below tolerance and filled back in with chrome material. this process makes it weak. Should no...

Re: Rebuild, replace, or convert a 220???

First mistake would be a chromed crankshaft on a 520 conversion. You would be better off buying a good STD/STD crankshaft. I didn't see anything about rocker arms.

Re: Broke 520 valve springs and odd seal

My conversion that I bought from a friend had about 80 hours on it. Broke crank 20/20 chromed, All pistons had been ground with a hand grinder, Assuming to be used in 0550 motor All valve springs were pitted like they sat in a bucket of water for a year. Same builder that you mentioned.

Re: Broke 520 valve springs and odd seal

Hate to talk bad about someone who has pasted. But if it was me I would tear down and do a complete valve job with all new springs. Is this a PE conversion? If so I would make sure that the crank is standard and not a ground under.

Re: RPM

I am sure someone will correct me if i,m wrong. The E Gap is the moment when the points begin to open. You need a timing box to achieve that result. With mag removed and mag lock in place of the red gear you need to hook up your timing box. You can move the gear ever so slightly the gap point is whe...

Re: GPU's....To vent or not to vent

Agreed with above comments. To much oil and vapor with oils slinging around in crank case. But your best place to vent is to weld a tube onto your oil fill tube. You will find that you will get less oil up there and it will vent just as well. Only need one vent.

I have not been out lately but this is the dry time of year. If digginfool say's he went to the tower then it was all main trail ridding and bouncing off the grass from side to side. You are not likely to have a very memorable ride of the area. There is so much to see and better trails to ride than ...

You can modify manifold to run a HA6 which is a side draft carb. I hear some people are having good results with a 650 Quick Fuel carb.
