Watermelon Pond ride on Google Maps

Haven't posted in a long time but thought the guys would get a kick out of this. I was on Orange Lake recently when some of the kids were looking at the new Google Earth maps on their phones seeing recently cut trails near River Styx on the north end of Orange. I checked the Water Melonpond Google w...

470 Coninental timing

Have a 470 GPU with 470-S dome pistons and dual mags. The specs call for either 20 or 22 degrees BTC on both mags. I'm not sure if the 8.6 to 1 compression ratio called out for the S series aircraft is the same when the pistons are in a GPU.
Anyone have any experience with GPU's with these pistons?

Power shift blade weight

Just got a note from Water Walker. It is the tip weight, so all should be OK.
I don't know much about these new fangled plastic props. I've been running wood for 40 years.
I guess plastic is good, still like a show a little wood once in a while.

Power shift blade weight

My 72 inch Power Shift signature series prop has tags inside the prop hub showing a weight of 1250 grams per blade from the factory. My digital scale shows each blade weighs 3270 grams. The scale I'm using is used for dispensing refrigerant in AC work and is accurate to 1/2 ounce. I have checked the...

Flags and mufflers

Fished Shell Mound at Cedar Key yesterday. Out of about 12 or 13 airboats, I saw 2 or 3 three flags, none of which looked to be the legal size. Most had mufflers, but the ones I saw were the beer can type, couple still had no mufflers. I know most of the people that read this forum are getting right...

Another idiot!!!

Add this to the idiotic stuff going on with that judge. I was involved in a sinking on Lochloosa a few years ago that could have ended much the same way due to a bunch of know it all cops. If you get time do a search for boating under news and read about more idiots. http://www.rutlandherald.com/app...

Powershift

The Powershift problem only with car motors?

I am not a lawyer by any stretch, but when my son was almost killed by a driver for a local ice company the company dodged a lawsuit by going out of business using the existing name and opening back up the same business under a diffrent name.

Lochloosa and Right Arm

Orange lake

Ran Orange and Lochloosa Sunday. Hot, Hot, Hot. Motor did great started and shut down good with only a little dieseling one time. Was running 93 octane with octane booster. Anyone had experience running 93 with pop-up pistons on a light boat. It looks like the motor is not working hard to run a good...

Hillrunner ride report

Great day Saturday. Went to Watermelon for the first time with new hull and motor. Planes out at about 13 to 1400 RPMS. No hopping. No spray out the side of the hull, only straight out the back. No GPS so can't say how fast, just a lot of tears, cheeks waving, and deck lid standing straight up. Seve...

AV gas

Did a search and found the Williston AV gas prices. $3.75 right now. likely going up. Funny, high test at 93 octane is $3.25, octane booster, (snake oil) is $.25 to $ .50 per gallon bringing the total to the same as AV or higher. I put some 93 octane in the boat just to get it started and check it o...

Hillrunner fire

Finally got my shop back up after the fire. Put up a Gulf Coast Steel building 24 by 30 on the old foundation. I'll post some pix of the boat and shop next week.
New boat is just about complete, will probably run Orange this weekend.

Anyone know what Avgas is going for these days?

Fire Pix finally

Finally took time to compress and upload pix from my fire back in February. Look under Hillrunnerfl. May not have done it right but should work. Am picking up new Jimmy White hull this Saturday, should be running again in a few weeks. Putting a 470 on the new hull, has popups, dual mags, and Power s...

Cedar Key Redfish Tournament

I read an story last week in the Cedar Key Beacon about the way the airboats took over the beach during the tournament. A lot of people living in Cedar Key, and those visitors using the beach the Sunday of the tournament are really pissed off at the way the boat drivers handled the whole deal. Sever...

Hillrunner Fire update

Insurance is covering my workshop for $13,000, and the contents for $11,000, they allowed only $1000 for the airboat. That doesn't sound like much, but since the policy had no specific coverage for the boat, I thought it would have been a total loss. Turns out the contents were covered by my home ow...

Major fire

Lost my workshop, airboat, all my tackle, welders, tools, mowers and a tractor today in a fire. Don't know how it started, fire marshall could not figure it out either. Appreciate the thumbs up on the pictures of my boat and grandson. Got insurance, so that's a good thing. I'll post some pix soon. H...

Everglades book

Found a great book, called Everglades Lawmen by James Huffstodt. You guys want to read about the early glades, gator poacing, deer shining, and a lot more about the old days, you need to read this. A "LOT" about the first airboats. No guards, model "A" motors with airplane props right behind your he...

Thanks to Terri and the group. Terri was at the meeting last night of the new Alachua Marion county airboat club at GTO She told us a lot about what she saw out there. Great job and thanks to Terri and the group. For all us rednecks!!! I saw on the news last night that Oprah, and the good reverand J...

I thought you had to have the Hull ID numbers on the transom and also hidden in another location, like under the deck. Any word on that?

Alachua County

Lot of talk on here on the intent of the Alachua County plan for Airboats. I attended some of the early meetings concerning Water Use Zoning, and though the deal right now is noise, the real meat of the matter is rereational water use in gerneral. The only reason the county did not put airboat and o...

Howdy from Hillrunner

Glad to see you got your new boat. I took the Rivermaster out to a local lake Saturday. Believe me it is running on all six now. My buddy is running a small fiberglass deckover with a hot 4 cylinder Lycoming on it and where he would run off and hide from the old heavy Kennedy, I ran right with him a...

All right all you red-necks. I might be one too. The high sheriff of Alachua County has passed a boom box noise deal that says if anyone can hear a radio or cd from 25 feet from a car they are getting a ticket. That covers my stock truck radio when I am listening to Bocephus, country gospel, bluegra...
