Superchargers can also be used on the exhaust side.... I cant remember which plane, might be the spitfire or Mustang had a supercharger pulling the exhaust out of the cylinders as another on forced air in.... and there are different types of superchargers. Some of the modern 'superchargers' are just...

Re: stainless muffler and mandran bends

Stubborn flange pipes on mufflers that wont squish hard onto the pipe with a clamp or if the pipe is slightly smaller than the muffler flange pipe can benefit from a few more extra slits to allow it to compress more easily ..... or you can add the extra slits and tap each segment down a bit with a h...

Re: Is an overall lower center of gravity more stable ?

The high seat is also to do with where you sit in front of the prop. There is a low pressure area right in front of the prop where the drivers head would be in a big boat with a low seat stand. Having your head in the middle of the low pressure area of a medium to full size boat can make a driver fe...

Re: Cruising speed rpm?

I would think the 400 small block would be a better DD motor and the 383 a better gearbox motor. From my experience with 400's they like to push, not be geared down. If you plan on using a gearbox, go the 383 is my opinion

Re: Thermostat or restrictor plate?

I would run a quality thermostat myself.... yes, many people have never used a thermostat.... don't need one, always chuck it in the trash first thing.... However, a thermostat (good quality) will get your motor UP to temp quicker, then keep the coolant temp more constant. The thermostat also makes ...

Re: timing and vacuum advance

I base my opinion on when I ran the EA81 Subaru turbo on the punt hull, (a light weight boat) I found to get it moving I had to give it beans.... once planning, it was a case of backing off, more backing off.... until it was not really working the motor hard at all. Obviously your big (real) airboat...

Just out of interest....How do the NWR rangers get around the marshes to stop poachers or count birds or trees? Do they use airboats? or mud crawlers or jon boats with mud engines?

It sure sounds like the cam timing being out for some reason is highly possible? Is the person that built the motor near you? It would be good to let them look at it, they might have overlooked something. While you are at it, make sure the TDC pointer is right with the mark.... if the harmonic balan...

Another phantom power robber can be when the vacuum advance diaphragm breaks and becomes a hidden, rather large vacuum leak... if it has a vac advance, pull the line off the manifold and the cap off and suck the tube, see if the plate in the dizzy tries to move or if you just suck air..... I have be...

Re: loss of power 454 need advice

Just thinking.... is it possible the cam sprocket has jumped a tooth? Prolly unlikely, has it got a a hy-vo chain or double roller? Does it have an adjustable cam sprocket? I have seen them loosen off enough to shift and retard the cam timing? Don't take much to upset the cam timing to make them run...

Re: Are all airboats under power as soon as you start up??

You have to remember also, if the prop aint turning, you got no steering... and, another point is, often the propeller acts as the flywheel on an airboat.... so if you disconnect the prop from the engine with some sort of clutch while it is running, you will generally need the additional weight of a...
