Matters not to me. Nothing I have is cheap either, just fair. Unfortunately, quality costs. Thanks for all your inputs.

Re: 500 caddi sump

Rule of thumb, front wheel drives (eldos) have a funny rear sump pan. RWD cars (all the rest) have a front type sump pan. The later RWD (past 76 with the 425 pans) have a mid sump type that is about an inch shallower. Hope that helps. POTTER . BTW, on an airboat with no crossmember, it surely doesn'...

Anyone do ductwork who wants to do some trading?

Hi folks. I have a self contained HVAC system. Military, portable a/c unit I need duct work done for in my shop. I have had several quotes and it seems that it'll be a 3500 to 3800 dollar job for parts and materials. Who wants to do some horse trading On some Cadillac parts and/or labor? I can rent ...

Somebody built it. There should be some literature somewhere for it. If in doubt, use mineral.

Re: 500 caddi low rpms

6 degrees is a little low. 8 to 10 initial may do better. NOW, you also need to check total advance, which is at 2800 or 3000 rpms. Remove the prop and do it with a manual light if you have to. You need about 32 to 36 degrees. The advance weights may not be letting the dist. do it's job.

Re: Synthetic Oil

Flat tappet (regular) cam- mineral oil Roller cam-synthetic oil. Weight should be calculated per bearing clearances. If they are "loose" and heavier oil can be utilized. If they are on the tight side, you can come down on wt. I use this method to control oil pressures to an extent. What happens to a...

Re: ANY BODY HAD THIS HAPPEN WHEN REBUILDING A MOTOR

Pistons can be installed backward leaving the chamefer to the inside. That'll sinch one quickly. That's about the only thing I can think of on a std crank that has run before if you have the std bearings on a set of stock pistons that have never been taken off the rod. The chamefer always goes to th...

Re: Sunk Motor Continued......

Both books do have some useful info. The big inch book has some bad info too. We do not offest grind crank to 2.2 inch journals (BBC)and 4.5" stroke. It makes the shaft entirely too weak. We go 2.375 (Chrysler )and 4.400 stroke as it adds about 20% strength to the shaft because of adding a nice fill...

Re: Despite DNR objections, airboat runs once again

Kinda sad that it's the same gov that wants you to go out and look for survivors and bodies after a major town floods. $5 or $6 bucks for a ride won't get you 2 blocks in NY City. How else are they going to get there? Helicopter? If they were smart, they'ld let him do what ever and make money on the...

Re: Am I getting in my power band?

How hard is it to change ratios in a box? Those new 2.55s may be optimium and less expensive than a whole new prob or prop and hub. You can take pitch out and gain rpms, but is it optimum for the prop as far as pitch goes?

Will do. I'd say mud dobbers are very possible, but the holes in front and back are as low to the block as possible and exposed (no cover like they like). It'll most likely be a weekly/monthly maint. to jab it out. Seems to me (and I've never been on a boat) that pine needles will be a major player ...

Hi, I don't use silicone with cork gaskets. Only in the corners where the rubber end gaskets meet the cork and just a dab. RTV high temp is the better silicone. I use 3m weatherstrip adhesive on the cork, other wise known as gorilla snot. It comes in yellow and black. You put a very thin stripe of i...

Lets get one on the pump first to see how it really does. I'd be happy with 560 and 630! Stan's usually very acurate, within 5 of each. Keep in mind also that that's with the proper header size. You simply deduct however much it hurts you.

Solution for water drain in front of Cadillac block

Folks have told us the the front of the engine fills up with water on the cadillac 500 between timing cover and distributor boss. We drilled between distributor boss and the holddown boss for a weephole with a long drill and it'll do just fine. The front cover needs to be removed to get low enough t...
