Re: Can`t Run Dry .....is it a lightweight ? or a Heavyweight ?

After seeing a new thread (yesterday) I went back and read this old story and realized I never responded to the last question. The short answer is I sold Dirt Road Sport . The "New" boat solved my problem with "Bob`s Rocks" and worrying about where I parked on dry ground :D I keep asking myself the ...

Welcome to S A :salute: Several years ago I was in the exact same place with my first Airboat and a lot of folks on this site helped me out with information and advice. I hope you feel same way after your journey....Welcome to the Addiction :banghead: After seeing your post I went back and read over...

Re: Will my propeller work with this new engine.

Cool project ! I took some photos of a boat set up like this while in Argentina a few years ago. The biggest difference was the belt style. It was running a 3 or 4 inch wide "cogged" belt. Having been in the belt business "way back when"....I would suggest that you run the calculations on horsepower...

Fun With Numbers

I occasionally read a post where someone is talking about how much Horsepower or Torque they either have or need. For a very long time, a very long time ago, I made a living in the "Drivetrain" business ( Differentials, Power Take Offs, Transmissions, Driveshafts.) Torque / Horsepower /RPM requireme...

Re: Advice and Education needed on 6 cyl Lycoming

I found an interesting container full of part included with this engine

A "Hartzell Hyro Select" hub assembly and 2 blade aluminum prop.

Pretty cool technology.

I will try to evaluate what I have in more detail as time allows.

Re: Marlin on the Brazos

I truly hope you guys get to run that part of the Brazos. If you get a chance to research the early Texas history associated with it will be "enlightening" If I understand where you are talking about putting in, there is a County Park with a "Low water dam" and a concrete launching ramp, called "Fal...

Advice and Education needed on 6 cyl Lycoming

Let me start this request with a disclaimer that I know very little about Aircraft engines. I have a 6 cylinder Lycoming that has been sitting up in a friend`s shop for years. He has recently sold his last airplane and has no use for the engine. It was supposedly a fully functional engine when remov...

I can count about 10 old timers (and I use that term as loosely as I can because they are a little older than I am) that have run them personally.. And every one of them have said, at different times alone, that the 455 Buick motor was one hell of an airboat motor back in the day.. Now, I say "back...

Re: Balancing an engine

Years ago our shop was into rebuilding quite a few components primarily for over the road trucks. I ran several pieces of balancing equipment, first was for turbocharger compressor wheels/ turbine wheel and shafts, and the second was for drivelines. At that time, the common unit of measure for an im...

Re: Any 7.3 mechanics

We just had a similar issue on an older version 7.3 (1993) in an old ranch truck. It only gets run for a few months a year during hunting season so we`ve never tried to fix it since it started acting up 4 or 5 years ago. I gave it to a young man that wanted to put it back on the road as a daily driv...

Sam KARMA works both ways and your a Good man so lets build a boat out of it. We need a hull and we can build the rigging and cage using the old stuff as a template. I trust the older gents memory, bad memories are hard to erase. Would love to see some pics of it back in the day! Did the boat have ...

Supposedly came on it new from the builder (Cyclone) in 1998....hourmeter shows appox 250 hours on it and it was running when it was "rained" in. Sat up for 10 or twelve years until...

No tapping required! Aluminum is soft. All you do is find right size screw and apply pressure and the stainless screw makes it own threads. in the end you may have a few with nuts on them but maybe none. Cheapest way That`s exactly how the 15x7 Air Ranger I`m building worked out :thumbleft: Probabl...

Re: High temp. and low oil pressure alarms

A lot of the industrial engine guys use "Murphy" gauges, and switches.

I worked on an Airranger once that was equipped with them.
The ones that were on it were adjustable and would kill the ignition, but they have a LOT of options
and an extensive on line catalog.

Good luck !
