Re: 496 lost oil somewhere and spun bearing

there was no oil in the coolant and there is no obvious leaks on the engine radiator or prop.
i was running it at night and had a pretty good run down the river running at 3800-4500 rpm. i’m kinda thinking it was only sucking the oil at high rpms and in the dark i wouldn’t be able to see any smoke

oil pump for gear drive

Just wondering if anybody ever experimented with a oil system for the gear boxes instead of the heavy gear oil contained in the drive, seams like you could free up some horsepower and maybe quiet down the drive with a pumped supply of lighter weight oil constantly flowing over the gears ?

Re: HELP - engine mounts breaking drive bolts???

I don't like the fact that all the bolts just through the plates with no support front to back maybe weld a plate on the front up from the bottom past the top of the mount and put some rubber between it and another bolt through it horizantlly.

Re: rusty tank

use a small piece of chain instead of rocks or whatever way easier to get out of tank ,if you have ever tried to get rocks out of a tank you'll know what I'm talking about.

Re: i wanna build a 4.3 chevy boat and i got some questions

I would bet a 350 with alum heads would end up lighter than the iron 4.3,you can get alum heads for the 4.3 but they are way more money than the SBC and are pretty hard to find.

I have a 20 hp briggs and a 38" 3 blade composite prop ,that dia is perfect for the 3600 rpm they are rated for. I had tried a reduction and a 60" 2 wide blade on that motor and it didn't push any better than the 38" did ,I really think it pushed less. I'll tell you right now with a 2...

long belt drive?

I'm new to the forum and ,I'm starting to get parts together for a new boat.
I'm thinking about using the long belt drive to get more useable room in the boat has anybody heard any positive or negitive things about them.
