GSO-540

I’ve heard from some people that you should run a bypass/relief valve on the supercharged 480/540s to keep the manifold pressure down as to not blow the cylinders off. Does anyone have any experience with this? Or is it not necessary. Thanks in advance.

Re: southern airboat

I don't mean to complain!! the web sight is still awesome, and I know there has been a lot of work to get it where it is now. I was actually referring to the date that used to be at the end of every classified category to let you know the last time a new add was added. I know this isn't a big deal. ...

Can someone please put the website back to the way it was. Or at least put dates on the classified ads so we can tell that they have been updated. Thanks!!

Ohio Crankshaft seems really cheap for the hp ratings.

Re: All aluminum 632

The 13k I found was for an iron block. I have found a couple of 8-900hp aluminum engines on drag racing web sights for around 20k. I just cant figure how you could go wrong with this set up. A 632 wont work nearly as hard to make this power compared to a sbc.

Re: All aluminum 632

I'm no engine builder. Maybe an all aluminum 632 for 17-20k isn't built well enough to last on an airboat. But if it is that's still cheaper than a supercharged Ls for the same hp.

All aluminum 632

I've been doing some research on all aluminum big blocks and found a wide price range (obviously). I've seen that you can get a 632 anywhere from 13k well up into the 40's and beyond. I was just wondering why more people don't go this rout. I mean if you can get an all aluminum 800hp 632 for around ...

Oilfield Trash. How is that boat running with the new pulley set up and tune. Didn't you say that it was a close race between your boat and that 750HP supercharged counter rotator boat?

Re: 556hp LSA vs. 600hp 418 Water Thunder

I don't think anyone will argue that the Hypereutectic pistons are probably not your best bet for an airboat build. But being that the LSA does have the engine management system it does make it a very nice engine platform. I think there are plenty of people who will attest to seeing or having boats ...

Re: 556hp LSA vs. 600hp 418 Water Thunder

I definitely want longevity and reliability. It seems like you don't have to turn the LSA quite as hard bc the torque comes in a little sooner. I would also like to see how that new engine performs for you Shane. I also like the fact that you can build more HP with the LSA than it would cost you in ...

I am looking forward to getting back on Todd's boat again (Blown). He told me he was doing the mod. I wanted to drive it before hand so I would have something to compare it to. It should definitely make it a little snappier!! it was already impressive.

Re: 556hp LSA vs. 600hp 418 Water Thunder

I drove on Oilfield Trash's boat this weekend. And I have to tell you, with a big boat like his and the LSA that thing was an animal!! we went places that I wouldn't even think of going in my AC boat. Thick nasty black mud, and tall sticky green grass. It was quick on the water as well! It just does...

Re: 556hp LSA vs. 600hp 418 Water Thunder

I went to one of the big airboat manufacturers today to get a quote for a new boat. The owner said that the LSA was a much better choice. He said that in his experience the LSA was a more reliable motor. He also said I should probably step up to a 14"8-8 since I wanted to run the side by side rear o...

Re: 556hp LSA vs. 600hp 418 Water Thunder

I appreciate the invite guys. I plan on trying to ride on as many boats with similar setup to what I'm looking for as I can. I think that's the only way to get a true feel for each set up. I think the BBC isn't going to work for me though. I've driven a few. It feels like driving a dump truck after ...

I prefer the dogleg. You can get full range of motion. most cable boats I've driven usually favor one side, and tend to stiffen up over time.

I agree with you Bigun. You can have a manufacturer build 2 identical boats with the same power plant and chances are they will not run the same. We are all passionate about our boats. And no one is truly right or wrong. Peoples opinions are only based off of their own personal experiences so you wi...

Re: 556hp LSA vs. 600hp 418 Water Thunder

I want a 14' 8' ultra light with 2 singles, real operator, and a double front. I think if the boat is set up right and as light as possible it should go anywhere I want with a 418, 2.68, and a 4bld R. this is me hoping anyway. I want it to be a tractor!!! That's why I say 4bld instead of the 3.

Re: 556hp LSA vs. 600hp 418 Water Thunder

I know diamondback puts a lot of mast engines on their boats. I haven't heard anything bad about them. I guess it all boils down to a persons experience with a particular engine and preference. Like I said before I'm makeing the switch from an ac boat. None of theses motors are cheap and I don't wan...

Re: 556hp LSA vs. 600hp 418 Water Thunder

I know they are both good motors. I have seen an LSA with a 4bld push a big 15 barge loaded anywhere it wanted to go. I've just never had the experience of being around to manny WT boats. I know the WT engines are well built, but having an engine pushed that close to it limits makes me nerviouse. I ...

556hp LSA vs. 600hp 418 Water Thunder

I am wanting to start a new build, and was wondering the pros and cons ( if any ) of each engine. The price of each are pretty much comparable. I'm going to be putting it on a 14' 8' hull. I just want to know if either engine has and advantage over the other. This will not be a race boat. Just a bad...

Re: Continental 520 putting 10 1/2 pistons in

When I had my 520 conversion re built I went with hi comp pistons. I had to put 7 degrees of pitch in the prop to hold it back. But this may be a little extreme bc my engine before re build was never really right.
