Re: Hunting Season

Ahhhhh, the old series Summit Viper. Keep that thing forever. The paint on the new ones sux! I have one of those and it is by far my go to stand. Also have a Summit 180° that is half is old and rarely gets used. Both get packed in and out every time and garage kept. The paint is in clearly worse sha...

Re: Hunting Season

X2 on replacing the cable on a Summit if you see ANY visible rust... which is 10+ years if you pack it in and out every day. I would expect to replace it much more frequently if you leave it in the woods each season. After seeing that pic and reading the story, I would replace the chain on an API an...

Re: Hunting Season

Damn that sux! Always wear a harness. If not for you, for those that matter to you! I hate to hijack this, but it made me wonder: Is the twisted multiple cables of a Summit LESS prone to that sort of un-warned breakage than the chain of an API? I mean, a chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link,...

Re: Using airboat engines to fight forest fires

My guess: a number of those would be a marginally effective but risky tool to create a fire break before a prescribed burn during appropriate weather.... problem is, a bulldozer is a proven effective tool to do the same thing without the inherent risk of fire.

Re: Air Cleaner for 0540

I run a spark arrestor. It has no real filtration properties. I have 235 hrs on the motor like that with 0 issues on a “Marvel” carb. I run it in the water, in mud, sand, brush.. whatever. Also have other boats kickin up dust around all the time. Some guys run automotive cleaners. The ones I have se...

I run just a factory spark arrestor.

Lots of guys run automotive air cleaners. Either works.

Time to kill pythons?

With the water as high as it is, the snakes are easily visible up here on the river. If the same phenomenon is happening in the glades, would now be our best shot at actually killing a decent number of pythons now that they have less places to hide? I am not from the Everglades nor have I been down ...

Rode Midway last night. Still couldn't find one piece of land to park on. Didn't see any fire any popcycles, but snakes were littered just everywhere!

The river drops at a rate of about 6-8"/week with no additional rain. Since the water is about 5' higher than usual, it will be a couple months until we see typical water levels.

Dead bass

Looks like the flooding rain from Irma has killed off loads of largemouths. Just a few bream mixed in. Disappointing!

Can someone please explain to me how lots of fresh water kills off bass like that?

Glad to hear you were able to help. Interesting to hear the lack of looting. I am of the understanding that in Texas, a looter can be legally shot dead. Please, correct me in how I am wrong. I am recalling a popular 911 call and the outcome of the trial. If I am correct, this makes a compelling argu...

Re: NEW 1-piece liquid cooled cylinder blocks for Lyc 360 & 540

Interesting in a "can it be done" sort of way. Switching to water cooled adds complication and weight which both are negatives. If it is all 1 piece, you also loose the simplicity and lower expense of only having to fix the one cylinder that has a problem. At a minimum, you are spending ti...

Guy on Facebook yesterday tried to tell me they are St. Johns land managers. I asked why they wasn't in uniform & he said they don't have to wear them. Why doesn't he have bolt cutters? I mean, if I was the "land manager" and the job I was getting paid to do today is remove tree stand...

I run an "old school" 12' Panther front driver.

I will ride and it will hunt, but the only way I fish out of it is if I'm parked on shore.

Re: am i wrong? NOT an AC vs. Carboat question.

Looks like we all agree, and I want to point out. 2-3 passengers with no live well (as one eyed gator mentioned) is a TOTALLY different power requirement than 4 people plus a live well. 2-3 passengers with no bait is what I run regularly in my SV 540 on a small light hull. Go anywhere I point it wit...

Re: am i wrong? NOT an AC vs. Carboat question.

We are not saying this hp/weight ratio is a must. There are many other variables and thrust pushes an airboat, not hp. This is just a ballpark to keep you from getting stuck all over. I mean, the reason to get an airboat over a typical kicker boat is so you can go places you otherwise couldn't. Almo...
