also run a ‘96 Supra starter on a SV 0-540 Came from Advance Auto.

If you are running that starter now, why do you need a new way to mount it?

Re: Breather tube

An airless paint sprayer uses a rock catcher that is about the right size to slip in/on the tube. Different sizes for different rigs so lots of choices. Might be worth checking.

My heart goes out to the families and loved ones of the 2 that didn’t make it.

All we can do is sympathize and remember that our actions do not only affect ourselves, but so many more around us.

Be safe!

I know of one person with “extra back straps” every year. He loves to deer hunt as much as anyone I have ever met. He hunts Ga with the old school “brown it’s down” mentality and DOSENT LIKE TO EAT DEER!!! He gives away A LOT of deer meet. Capt Steve, your problem is that he has a lot of f...

Derrik said the water is down 18 inches??? Sent from my E6833 using Southern Airboat mobile app powered by Tapatalk Still got a long way to go, but yeah, it is FINALLY going down everywhere. Maybe still about 4’ high for this time of year, but it’s dropping in the ditches, in the creeks, on the riv...

Duck season Saturday. That explains the mud boats and all the gunfire.

I guess the water is right for duck AND manatee hunting!

does this skew the conception rate numbers?? :toothy7: http://www.buckmanager.com/media/images/2008/12/buck-breeding-a-buck-02.jpg 1) Those aren’t Florida bucks, so that won’t affect Florida conception dates....more likely California! 2) Try as they may, I don’t think what them boys are doing will ...

Re: Central Florida rut

Just keep in mind how they make that map. They estimate the conception date for numerous fawns, then average those dates to get the numbers you see on the map. The problem: If half the fawns were conceived October 1st and the other half were conceived November 1st, the map would say the rut peaks Oc...

Re: Extendable frog gig pole

I have used extendable crappie poles to gig frogs for years. Work like a champ! You can make them collapse if you try, but you don’t have to hit a frog that hard. Bought an extendable frog pole last year. Honestly, I couldn’t tell the difference between that and the crappie poles I have been using. ...

Shell or Phillips aviation

Shell 100 plus is perfect for airboat application. Get it where you get your 100ll avgas.

Re: My new ride! First aircraft engine! Any advice?

Run it! If you can get avgas, run only avgas. If not, there are some threads on here that tell you how to set the timing for pump gas and use lead substitute EVERY time..... I take that back: Just find a source for avgas! Use champion D16 or autolite 386 or equivalent. Change the oil and check the s...

Re: Why didnt Florida join this lawsuit

I agree, there is plenty of work that could be done to make the current legislation more efficient. The main reason I defend it, to use the Everglades as one example, is that without the current protection the Everglades receives, partly through the ESA, they wouldn’t open it back into an untouched ...

Just wondering: Did it come off the trailer going down the highway? I mean a 2’ x 4’ piece ripped off the bottom AND a 3’ crack!

Got pics?

I need to see to know for sure, but I suspect I have thrown away nicer things!

The law suit appears to me to be a BS attempt for states to cater toward wealthy constituents who want to profit from the destruction of potentially irreplaceable habitat. The quote stating that current legislation implies that a desert could be protected due to the possibility of a stream being con...

Re: New to Airboats need some advice

John (as usual) is right. A DD can be made to turn the same prop with the same pitch the same rpm as many stock AC motors. That is the only true measure of thrust anyway. Here are the problems: 1) since the motor is heavier, the rigging needs to be built sturdier which is heavier and now all the add...

Re: New to Airboats need some advice

ANY airboat will go easily where there is ANY water. The problem is when the water dries up. I have never rode your area. Around here and in other places I ride, sometimes the dry can be a long ways till you find water again. When I ran my DD the trick was planning my route and knowing what trails h...

Re: New to Airboats need some advice

I also started out in a DD CM boat. Mainly because of budget and a lack of knowledge of AC motors. I had a lot of fun in that boat. It rad as good as you can expect a DD to runs and I spent a lot of time stuck. Don’t even look at black mud. Sand is trouble also. I now run a Lycoming 0-540 and there ...

Re: Hunting Season

X2 on replacing the cable on a Summit if you see ANY visible rust... which is 10+ years if you pack it in and out every day. I would expect to replace it much more frequently if you leave it in the woods each season. After seeing that pic and reading the story, I would replace the chain on an API an...
