Re: 2014 2.0 turbo Ecotec stand alone tune

Yes mine is not Gdi. I am using d207r 2.0t high pressure version I have built a couple of these for the import world and have made reliable power very close to what the gdi can make . And I have control of all the tuning parameters. I may remove the stock turbo and. install a procharger I have sitti...

Educate me. Turbos and Blowers

1.21 is a pressure ratio for calculating a mass volume of air has very little to do with boost pressure , but more on the volume of air , volume = flow psi = restrictions Most of and I say. Most aircraft are what we call boost normalized at sea level there is very little boost 2 psi maybe 3 on a col...

Educate me. Turbos and Blowers

Pressure ratio of 1.2 Pr x bp - bp = boost at sea level 1.2 x14.7-14.7 =2.9 psi of boost
Bp is barometer pressure

Re: Engine mounting height

I know technology has changed the the airboat industry since I last was involved in air boating So what's your take on engine mounting height and blade depth in transoms I just realized I didn't really ask a question , What's the benefit of having the motor up high over down low , what's better for...

Re: Nitrous help.

I used to have 4.3 with nitrous and a 2.37 reduction I ran 150 hp on stock rotating assembly I don't recommend that to a novice nitrous tuner stay under 75hp Yes the wot is a open switch when your at wot it closes allowing current to reach the solenoid If you have a hand held momentary switch and it...

Re: Nitrous help.

Wot is a safety If your foot bounces of the gas pedal in that two second burst Bye bye head gasket That motor has cast Pistons so ring lands are a concern you can never have enough safety devices installed when using nitrous I tune multiple stage fogger systems (600hp+ Of nitrous alone plus the engi...

Re: Nitrous help.

I was giving you the safest safety margin possible but in reality I I would run 93 octane and one take out two degrees than add a degree and watch your plugs I have run 50 hp with out moving timing at all but different cams comp ratios all effect how an engine reacts If your running direct drive tim...

Re: Nitrous help.

50 chemical hp is equal from 4 cyl to 8 cyl On the 4 cyl it's putting twice the load = raising cylinder Pressure double of a v8 12.5 hp per cyl over 6.25 hp The load is more spread out and it effect on parts is not as dramatic Your only asking to increase each cylinders potential by 8.3 hp very doab...

I always pull that pipe out and plug it with pipe fitting

I don't have enough fingers and toes to count how many people have come to my trailer at the race track looking for a 10 cent cap after a small nitrous backfire or a engine sneeze

Re: reduction box question

Horsepower will never change you will still only have 230 hp at the stated RPM say 4800 But with the high numerical gear box ratio you can swing a bigger prop and grab more air at the cost of not being able to spin it as fast but with the right prop that's not a problem Think of it like this a small...

Re: reduction box question

In theory going from a 2.1 to a 2.37 has a similar effect as adding 125 hp shot of nitrous to a engine I say engine but in reality it's to the prop . At a given engine rpm say 3800 there will be 130 additional foot lbs of work be able to be performed you're not actually working the engine any harder...

Re: reduction box question

I don't want to up set you but a stock 2 barrel 454 is no were near 400hp A 1991 ss 454 high hp engine of that era it had 230hp 385 ft torque Now with a decent cam 750 holley and a nice duel plane rpm intake you could get very close to 400hp But with the 8to1 compression with the 454 it's very hard ...

Torque multiplication is king here and you dont want to decrease reliability by turning the engine higher in the rpm range.

Re: ENGINE EXPERTS. What's your thoughts?

Joe Pete It's hard to drop a valve seat in an iron head they are cast into the head and machined out , that being said 99% of the dropped valves in aluminum heads comes from the operator over heating the engine the seat basically falls out of the head hangs up a valve and crutch It's not necessarily...

Re: ENGINE EXPERTS. What's your thoughts?

Key thing is here ... is the engine is in the intended rpm range and designed around endurance and makes great horse power and torque on pump gas and at the rpm you intend to use it a forged crank is not needed and with those heads there is a lot of power left to tap but at the cost of having to tur...
