Re: Scallop question

Last time, pretty far back, the runners to dry load had screws sticking up and at low tide the regular ramp the trailer would back into mud. I like the John Brown ramp at Ozello, you can get out between the crowds.

Re: What to power my new boat with

That’s a big boat and I only know Florida but I would want more motor. Torque is important and I would not own a boat that big without 700 ft lbs of usable torque. Maybe 540 BB Chevy or a LS that will deliver what you need. Fuel injection for sure.

Re: Powder Coating v. Painting.

I have had a lot of powder coated trailers and once the coating was chipped it would start to come off. It was a decent trailer company that had their own setup. I would probably paint because touch up would be easier.

The south side toward Chazz is mostly prohibited and requires a stamp from the preserve. Old duck preserve.

Re: St. John’s River

I have run the west side of Lake George but would not run the river. The river gets deep and there are large boats with big wakes. If you run the west side stay shallow or you will end up in manatee zones.

Re: Ummm Yep WATCH THE NEWS

Like you, I don't like getting screwed out of my hard earned money. I know hindsight is 20/20, but what you could have done was go to a place like Floral City Airboats. (and no, I don't work there, know them or ever bought a boat from them). Their website shows they have 45 new airboats in stock an...

Re: Strickly Redfish Boat

Where are you going to fish and are you looking new or used? I have had these boats and it depends on a lot of factors but for the best all around maybe a 15’ deckover with a 24” grass rake. Get a welded boat for saltwater and all stainless rigging. I found car motors with at least 500 ft lbs of tor...

Re: Fuel mileage towing 16 to 20 boats

My data point: Truck (owned since new, 50k odo today): 2011 Ford F150 FX4 3.5 Ecoboost / 3.73 e-locker Boat: in signature below 60mph: 14mpg 65mph: 12mpg 70mph: 10mpg 2 wheel drive version of the truck is good for 2 to 3 mpg better. I will say about the same with a 14' boat. This setup holds a high...

I think the in and out connection on Magnaflow are the weak point and a lighter gauge. Get a good Borla muffler.

Re: Gear Drive Help???

I would find out what makes your boat run hot, pushing a 18' boat far on dry ground will probably make a lot of motors run hot. I don't think a 350 is going to do much on a 18 foot boat with any gear.

I have had several brands and Stinger held up fine to the biggest motor I had, over 700 torque & HP with motor rated higher. Probably the best bang for the dollar.

Re: Airboat vs. bay boat

Depends where you ramp off at. If there is a lot of deep water and boats stay with the bay boat. The difference between the running cost of a 14' boat and a airboat are not even close.

I also got mine at Millers in Ocala. The thin ones that flex work best. The thick ones with little flex come lose in sand more often if there is wave action.

Re: Gearboxes?????

Ballistic boxes are machined billet and Stinger are I believe still cast boxes. I have had Stinger and on my new boat have Ballistic and like it better. There is not a lot inside a box except for the several gears and the bearings. To me the case is also very important because of the bolt holes and ...

Where to stay in Margate?

I am going to have several crews working in Margate and need to find a decent hotel for my guys to stay. One challenge is that my trucks and trailers are over 40 feet. Any suggestions are appreciated. Also is there any construction dumps in that area? Thanks

Re: Problens with Mast LS 7

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge you can watch to make sure its not the pump How would pump interfere with throttle response? It happened to me. It was either having grounding problems or had trash in it. When running the pressure dropped and the boat would slow or stop. Changed out and no problem...

Re: LS or big Block...... Which do you choose????

I've had both and would go MAS BBC. My MAS 540 BBC was all aluminum and only weighed 400 lbs which is the same as my LS. I would go fuel injected like 540 mountain motor. I saw his boat being built at GTO Airboats. I had a carberator and using the crappy ethanol makes it hard to shut down so I ran A...
