Re: PLUGGING POLY HOLES (fiberglass)

He is right with the counter sink, it gives it more surface to hold onto. The pressure is also up so it helps to keep plug moving up.

Re: Thurman Build Thread

I don't know about line-X but when I painted mine I used a non skid product from awl grip. It is an additive that goes in the paint and shoots thru the gun. You paint boat then mask off area that you don't want non skid on then mix up paint add non skid and paint. It wears good and makes deck non sk...

Re: Hesitation at quick acceleration!

You can try connecting them together. You will have to turn it up to make it self energize.
I had one that would not energize it self and friend with a starter generator shop put a smaller pulley in the alternator.

Re: YOU GUY'S HOLD ON TO YOUR HAT'S! FWC IS GONNA BLOW YA AW

I think of this every time I have a call of nature and I'm standing on the front deck 8" from the water.
But it's OK FWC will help me out. And I thought it was open season on Pythons.

Have you turned on the fuel pump and looked down the carb with a flashlight to make sure float valve was closing off?

Re: Fiberglass over plywood

Why plywood? Why not use a composite for the core and glass over that.It would be lighter. It is easy to work with and never rots. You might have to build a frame to build it on.Finish nail the composite to the frame, glass outside, pull it off frame and glass inside. I will say this. When you start t...

Re: Boat Trailer input wanted

Channel iron is the best. doesn't hold water. Best thing you can do is have the iron demet coated before painting. Salt water won't get through a good demet coat. I have to agree with the channel iron, but what is iron dement coating? Is it a DIY product or do you have to take it somewhere to have i...

You also have to be carful with certified check. My wife got one for a antique she was selling. She told the person the funds would have to clear before she would ship it. When she took the check to the bank they took one look at it and said it was fake.

Re: Lets see some nice conduit boats!

am glad this was posted. Although I have owned an airboat I have never built one. After the new year I plan to start my build. The plans I have for the cage call for 1/2" EMT. Is EMT strong enough? Or do you recommend something els? All input will be greatly appreciated. 1/2" is fine for some of it,...

Re: What year did you start air boating and what kind of boa

My first boat was a hand me down 5X10 plywood boat with a 65 cont.My dad got a Taylor hull with a 0470 and all aluminum cage. This was in 1971 and I was 16 years old. Like Cutler I had to hand prop it. It had a gravity feed fuel tank under the seat with a large tank under engine with a hand pump moun...

Re: question about boat size.

You have to be careful, even more so in deep water. You slow down slowly and keep the back wash off back deck. And you make the seat pucker up when you turn when not on a plane. The up side is its fun to run.

Riley my first airboat was a 4' 8" x 10 plywood boat. This was in the 70s. and in south fla. It had galvanized steel on the bottom. My dad built it and ran it for a few years and gave it to me when he graduated to a 6 cylinder aluminum boat. Once the sawgrass wears the galvanize off it is slick as g...

Re: Got water in fuel

I know a guy that works on outboards that built a filter system using spin on fuel filters like someone else said. He uses a electric fuel pump and pulls the fuel out of the tank thru the filter and back into the tank. If you already have electric pump on boat you can use that. You can get an filter...

Re: Ground Wire Burning Up

It takes less current to turn it over with plugs in it. Try using a good set of jumper cables and go from your negative side of your battery to your engine block. If that doesn't work hook up the positive to the starter.
If any of this works you need to do what John said and replace cables.

Thanks for the Info! Took mine down today to the one in Melbourne. I will have to say it checked out good! Re: No more need for avgas

I ran 93 pump gas in my 160 with no problems until they screwed it up with ethanol. After the ethanol my headers started to change colors. I started running pump gas so I wounldn't have to drive 20 miles out of my way to get it.
