Re: Belt drive help

Off the boat. Count the teeth and divide.
On the boat. Spin the prop one time and count how many revelations the engine turns.
2:1 is two turns of the engine. 2.3:1 is two turns plus about 1/3 of a turn or approx 4 o'clock.
And so on....

Re: Stainless rigging question

Good post on the strengths.. BUT Whats the weight difference of each ? I've always been told stainless adds about 100lbs if you build identical rigging (Riverboat set up-large cage-3 seats) If the diameter and wall thickness are the same there is little to no difference in weight. Less than 2%. If ...

Re: Stainless rigging question

Two different point to contend with. Tubing Strength. The OP asked if SS would be heavier than Conduit. It is not. It is stronger than ERW tubing which is what conduit is. It is still stronger than DOM. Chromoly is of course stronger yet. 1018 ERW tubing 60,000 psi Tensile Strength 50,000 psi Yield ...

Call Diamondback. Just because it isn't on their website doesn't mean they won't build it. Hamant's work is also high quality. Either one will turn out a
great product.

Re: cooling system question

Like I said, it doesn't bother me any. However, the high mounted radiator will continue to cool the engine even if you throw a water pump belt, they don't have filling problems and you can cool an engine with a pinto radiator up there. As far as ugly, well thats subjective and I certainly will conc...

Re: What is really possible with a 73 500 caddy DD

Let's start with some cheap stuff? Where do you have that "H" set at for RPM's at WOT? They love to be turned hard. 2900-3000 on the trailer for maximum thrust. Do you have jacks in your boat? Do you have at least 1/2" of belly in the bottom? The Alumitech's I have dealt with have all...

Re: 4.3 v-6 question

Thanks man.... I bought what I was told was a new style Chevy adapter from alumitech but the bolt pattern didn't line up at all perhaps they gave me an old style? Do you have a one or two piece rear main seal? They did make a few V-6's with two piece? The old style crank flange has a 3.58 diameter ...

Re: 4.3 v-6 question

What kind of prop adapter are you using for the 4.3 The 1986 and up V-6 and V-8 share the same crankshaft flange bolt pattern. So you need a "new" style prop adapter. http://www.classicairboats.com/Prop-Adaptors-Prop-Adaptors-21889.Item.html Classic sells them as well as other manufacture...

Re: cooling system question

I am a big believer in expansion tanks. They are the most foolproof way to be sure that the cooling system is full of water/antifreeze. I have one on my boat and would recommend them to any one. However it is no problem to run a different system. It just takes some diligence on your part to ensure t...

A couple of other places that may be able to help you with headers
Innovative Accessories (863) 357-3400
Alumitech Airboats (407)-826-5373

They both build headers. May be able to build some for you.

Re: Heads for a sbc 400??

Lets start with the most important question. What is your budget for the heads? How many RPM's are planning on turning this combo? Do you have the bottom end to support it? What kind of cam are you planning on running (solid, hydraulic, hyd. roller)? What kind of intake and carb are you planning on us...

Re: more rpm

If your timing is set to the correct amount of advance at the RPM your engine turns at WOT you will not gain anything by changing the curve in the distributor. However by making the distributor advance quicker or eliminating the advance all together you can increase the quickness in which your engin...

Re: Can't decide on a ratio! 2.52 or 2.67?

With your combination you may be very happy with the "S" blades. They get a bad rap sometimes. They are very quiet and provide lots of push. They just aren't as sporty as the "R" blades. Part of the reason is that people ended up mating them to lower reduction ratio's and ineffic...

A little more copy and paste. It is very accurate. Propeller Bolt Torque Values--All Standard, HP and HPL hubs that use 1/4" bolts to clamp the blades in the hub should be tightened to 120 inch pounds. All Rotax bolt patterns that use 8 mm bolts to mount the prop to the gear box flange should b...

Re: Can't decide on a ratio! 2.52 or 2.67?

Is this the cam you have? http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/cam-specs/Details.aspx?csid=160&sb=2 Based on that cam choice I would go with the 2.52 ratio if the "R" series is gonna happen sooner than later. If not then the 2.67 will be better for the superwides. I would set WOT at abou...
