Re: engine suggestion for a fiberglass12x7

4.3 V6 Chevy will be the most affordable. It will have enough power to pull on and off the bank but won't run a lot of dry.

Re: engine suggestion for a fiberglass12x7

No way to answer a question like that. What is your budget? How mechanically inclined are you? Are you gonna do all the work yourself or pay some one to do it? How much load will you be carrying on the boat? What kind of 12x7 hull?

Weld it. You can always grind it off. It is just steel. But no reason to ever go back. Locked out is the way to go.

Re: Why Not A Crate Engine?

That is the crate 525 that is used extensively in Dirt Late Model racing. They turn them 7000+ RPM's for 1000's of laps, in a very harsh environment. It is not your typical crate engine that has a crappy rotating assembly mated to a big cam and cheap cylinder heads. It was designed and built to take...

If you can't afford avgas, you can't afford an airboat. Period.

A very common misconception. However those wide blades like pitch over tip speed.

I would do a 2.55 box. They would match up very well with 78" blades.

Make sure you safety wire the Air Cleaner and any breathers too the engine. Bad things happen when they fall off!

They sell radiator hoses that are 1.75" on one end and 1.5" on the other. Just go to your local part store and look at the flex hoses.

Re: What Ratio on the box?

At 79" Blades and that combo I would do a 2.5. Set it about 5600-5800 on trailer and let it eat. Let me offer an alternative setup. 2.38 box and (6) razor/sabre blades. On a sled with an engine like that it would be a super good cruising boat and fly on the big end. Still have more than enough ...

Re: Newbie Question on Rigging

Thank for the replies. If it works out that way the boat should be a beast with that 3 blade, dont you think? At 350/355 Cubic Inches on a 15' boat. Prob not a "Beast". Maybe a good running all around boat depending on the rest of the setup. The 3 blade "R" series coupled with a...

I also had one. Trouble free service for a couple years. If they were offered in better ratios I would have had no problem getting another one.
They are not as quiet as the Stinger,Ballistic or Ox-Box's that I have heard. Just FYI.

Re: cam question 355 lt sbc

The chevy hot cam for their roller motors lt1 to lt4. Chevy made it so it has to fit better than anything else. A truly ridiculous statement in a thread about what cam may work well in an airboat. I am sure GM has spent many an hour trying to make an engine perform well in that kind of application ...

With a 2:1 box I like this cam.

Set it about 5300 on trailer. Them "K" blades need a little tip speed.

Re: carbs

Maybe u might want some dyno time or some accurate info before u post. 2b are rated differently than 4b(1.5 vrs 3). It takes twice the vacuum for the same cfm thru a 2b vrs 4b. Dyno numbers speak for themselves. Vacuum is a restriction. I know all about how carbs are rated. The difference is that I...

Re: carbs

Another way to look at it. Airspeed from a v8 through a small carb will cause the engine to have vacuum under wot load. This vacuum is a restriction of air and therefore reduces HP. To maximize the power potential of ur engine it needs to breathe. A 650 will make more power at any rpm on a dyno'ed ...
