Re: Cam for 383

http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/cam-specs/Details.aspx?csid=162&sb=2 I had this cam on my 383. Steel vortech heads, flat top pistons mated to a 2.68 box and 3 80" "R" series blades. Turned them 5500 RPMs at pitch setting three. Boat ran great for as heavy as it was. It would idl...

Re: What series Sensenich?

You don't wanna hear it but a 2 blade "R" series is the answer. The "R" likes pitch and you won't have much with a 3 blade. I had that same basic combo. Mild 350 with a 2:1 and a 2 blade "R". Heavy boat but ran really well and surprised most folks. Set it for about 4800...

Re: Scotty's Airboat build update

Yes you need a quality bolt and the thick washer. GM did that for a reason. Also locktite and a torque wrench. You should already have those from when you installed the flexplate and gearbox.

Without a doubt: Gearbox ratio change. Put a 2.55 on it. You will be amazed how much more push you get.

Re: Rotator/Stinger/Precision

The Precision box is very limited on gear ratios. With a 383 and "R" series blades you would be much happier with a 2.38-2.68 ratio. Unless something has changed the Precision boxes are all 2:1. I had a Precision and a Rotator. Both are a little nosiy and both performed very well. But the ...

There use to be a guy in Daytona that did it and it's it is awesome to watch his name was shakey Shakey lettered a few of our racecars. There is a guy in Port orange area named Greg Melnick who is an awesome sign painter/pinstriper. Watching him work was really cool and humbling. Very few true arti...

Re: I am building my 1st airboat and need input.

Don't let anybody discourage you. If you can afford it build the nicest boat you can. Junk ain't any fun. You also cant have too much horsepower.
More is better on a 14' or 15" boat. Stuck sucks.

Start reading and come back with more questions.

Do a search for run on and dieseling. It has been covered many times. No matter what, it is a good idea to let it idle for 30-40 seconds after running hard anyway.

Re: Supercharged 0480 2800 goes flat

Fuel pressure is not the only variable. You need flow too. #8 or 1/2" line minimum. No reducers or adapter that are smaller than that either. No 90* fittings is preferred, however if one is needed it must be the high flow tube style. No hardware store stuff. They don't flow the same. No good. b...

You need a set of heads not an engine. Brand new castings and "SHOULD" fit your existing components.

Back when my alternator went I remember standing at autozone going through 50 boxes to find one that matched up....I wont be much helping figure out which one but I will say you should get one from autozone. Lifetime warranty and you do not need a receipt. Also on a side note, they have lifetime wa...

Re: Bad fuel mileage

Fuel mileage can be greatly affected by your boat setup, how heavy you are loaded and how fast/how you drive your boat. But for reference my old boat got right around 2.5 miles per gallon. It was kinda heavy and had a 383/2.68/R series combo. I liked to dog it a little and there was usually a little ...
