Coming along real well.
Leave the tabs on and relocate to match. They help trim the rudders.

When you say, "blew up my 220", what broke? Is it the bottom end or cyls?

Kinda short notice. It would have been cool to see. I was a HOA member many years ago when I worked for Scat Hovercraft. I also raced them and one of the Locations was in Troy Ohio.
Have a great ride.

Hey Swamphunter. If you could video when you fire up the ol' John C and post it, it would be cool to see it. Been reading about the rebuild project for a while.

Re: 500 Caddy Direct Drive Prop Pitch Setting

Welcome, Ed. Just an FYI for DD caddy application. Many use Mr Branch's oil cocktail in their engine to help with the thrust bearing wear. I believe he adds Lucas Oil Stabilizer and ZDDP break-in lube to the conventional oil. I can't find the post where the mixture was posted.

Re: Ideal hull shape to not hop or plow?

Yea, the 'ole cyclic porpoising syndrome. One of the biggest reasons is too great a payload for the hull size, combined with an aft center of gravity and enough speed to climb out of the depression it displaces in the water. You mentioned it changed when you went to the GPU from a 4 cyl. It may be a...

It's difficult to tell which ones are defective until such acts of stupidity are demonstrated. Post election demonstrations and dressing up as a turkey are perfect examples. The mind is a terrible thing and should be outlawed or removed before it kills someone. :violent1: Wait a minute...what are yo...

Re: build whith chevy 250ci

The Chevy 250 is a good motor for direct drive. You can use a composite prop about 70". Your hull should be about 12' x 7' and not too heavy. Look at some of the pictures and you will get a good idea how to build it. There are no plans.

Hey PC, you've not only built one heck of a nice airboat, you've built a few great friendships along the way. Now that you have a killer boat, ya gotta stick a few frogs and get some frog guts on it...kinda like christening it. If you don't come frogging with us one night, we're gonna have "someone ...

We run a course behind the AAOF in the Everglades National Park with 4 stops, where you draw a card for each hand you buy. The fifth card is drawn back at the club. It's about 3-4 beverages long...depending how thirsty you get along the way. Go to the AAOF.com site and you can see pictures from prev...

Re: 0470 blow-by / leak down

Besides checking the rings for blow-by, you can also check the intake and exhaust for leaks past the valves. Listen to the exhaust pipe and the carb throat for leaks for each cyl. Valve guides can also contribute to oil usage.

Re: 10.0:1 compression adding a blower optional?

It's more than just CR on blower engines. There is no coasting driving a prop. A lot of load, pressure and heat generated. Forged pistons, rings set lower in piston, chrome moly, plasma moly or stainless, high performance exh valves, boost referenced carb, matched cam, head studs instead of bolts, M...
