Re: 1975 Cadillac 500

You do not just swap heads on a caddy. Piston/head combo must match or you could be in trouble. There is a huge torque difference between sbc and caddy. It's a nice upgrade. Use the search functionand find lots of good info on what to do like timing chain and a few other things. The price is right e...

Re: Anybody ever ran a 455 buick?

Listen. No arguing here. Just commenting. And I gave credit to the Buick as being a good dd choice. But those hp #'s mean nothing. My brother had a good running Buick dd. However far from a 540

Re: Anybody ever ran a 455 buick?

I've seen plenty of good running dd buicks. However if your statement was entirely accurate than why would anyone buy a straight valve 0540 ? A Buick is so much cheaper and by your testimony, more power. And I've seen plenty of races including sarno , and yes there has been a Buick that has outrun a...

Re: Anybody ever ran a 455 buick?

First off let me say I am a caddy fan as most already know. However the 455 Buick is a great dd choice and with some mods will make a fine boat. But to say to expect better performance than a 260 0540 is hillarious

Idc what kind of power that motor made. Bolt a prop to the crank , throw it on a boat and come try your luck against my dd caddy. And a 502 is a joke for a dd !

Surprised the Heck out of me, NO hi pitch whine... sounded like a big 2 blade I compared its Static Thrust to a 2 & 3 blade also @ 72" ... No compariso...

Rick , what the hell you want with a 220 ? Anyway I heard a rumor that Bob May have enough parts laying around to build a real 0470.

Only by the crank casting # pull the oil pan and be sure. Ending in 793 or 094 is a 500

Awesome thank you all for clearing that up guess a have a 509 now lol now off to find head gaskets .040 over lol wonder how my math was off? Maybe i should have used Pi Standard fel pros will work at .040. And up to .060 however I wouldn't use them on .060, .050 is my max with the Fel pro. You can ...

Re: Cadillac 500 new carb best yet!

Thanks for replying Sides. I hoped you would because of you're experience with caddy's. My motor is a stock 500 with no upgrades. I would think that you're carb would be too much for my motor. I have another 500 that I bought from Ruagatr (caddy experienced) but have not rebuilt it yet with the par...

Everyone is always looking for that perfect carb. Unfortunately they want it out of the box perfect. Good to hear you report the issues and fixes. I run a demon 750 mechanical secondaries and upped front and rear jets. I get so tired of people telling me I need a Holley 500 2 barrell. The cu in / rp...

Re: ENGINE EXPERTS. What's your thoughts?

I would never buy a bbc with iron heads. Makes no sense. Those iron heads weigh more than my caddy iron heads. And my cam has a lot more lift than that one and I'm direct drive. I understand your reliability concern. There are better options. Have you considered an LS ?

You need more jacks for sure. May be other issues as well. Keeping that bottom from pushing up when you run dry is important.

Re: Is something wrong with the 500? Or hull?

With that box and prop you should be able to run dry within reason. Hell I have no doubt my dd motor would push that hull dry. There is def an issue somewhere. Do you have jacks ? Is the bottom moving ?

Try a 4 blade Excalibur ! As bwhite stated they are larger than the sabers. They love 3000 rpm and I'm extremely satisfied with mine.
