What sucks is saving 500 dollars on the heads and destroying the whole engine. It took us 2 hours to cut/beat/and pry that piston out so we ...

Re: Caddy? yr new ?

the 71 comes in at 375/525 while the 72 and 73 come in at 220/365. So how do I see what yr I have? Or is the chart I'm looking at wrong? If heads, block, crank and pistons are the same then why the difference in power? The reason is because in '72 they went from gross to net ratings. (from the cran...

Re: Direct Drive ???

I don't think anybody is dd by choice! I mean really if someone was giving u a boat and the choice of dd or reducted? Is there really a choice here? It's my choice. Always has. Always will be. Not a money issue. It's a choice. If you build it right , 500 caddy, not just the motor ,the entire boat it...

Re: Caddy?

Sorry and surprised to hear you had bad experiences with them. Just goes to show that not everyone is treated the same at some businesses even though they should be imo. You are right about the Airboat part. Spinning a prop is a whole different world than spinning a torque converter. Lol. And yes ve...

Re: Caddy?

Who knows for sure what was said. Three sides to every story. I've done business with courtney and Chris at cad company for 12 yrs. All I can say is they don't agree with 425 heads on a 472/500 nor do they recommend alum heads in a direct drive situation. Not the point however. I would stick with th...

Re: Caddy?

I have a hard time believing cad company told you it would work considering it states in thier catalog the woes involved in doing that head swap. For the record it will work, meaning yes the engine will run and compression is slightly raised , however its not worth the money in gaskets for almost no...
