Re: Headers glowing red

Took it to a friends house tonight and we checked timing and plugs the plug were white on the ends and the timing was only at 27* wide open so we set it to 34* and added a little fuel with def jets I still have a slight hestitation off idle but not near as bad and the plugs seem to darken up a litt...

Re: 500 Caddy VS Chevy 350

 I'm still trying to figure out how you blew a head gasket on that Caddy :dontknow: from my experience it is damn near impossible, I have had mine hit over 300 degrees and it didn't damage the gasket your pistons will melt before you blow that gasket :slap: I have blown so many Cadillac he...

Re: Headers glowing red

Not trying to hi jack the thread but what kinda AFR do you like to see Marshal? I've been tuning a new carb this year. I have about 14:1 at 3500 cruising and 13:1 @ 4200 when my secondaries kick in to WOT. My headers were glowing red last year and I washed out two pistons from running to rich, 10:1...

Re: Headers glowing red

It sounds more like a rich condition then a lean condition if you have fire coming out the end of your exhaust. install a wide band gauge / prob to check your AFR.

Re: SBC timing

I would have locked the whole thing solid and set the timing at 33*, you will lose 1* when you come off idle because the dist gear will rise on the cam gear. Give it a week or two and you will notice when you come to idle that it takes a few seconds for your engine to come completely back down to id...

Re: 500 Caddy VS Chevy 350

flahillbilly this might be the easiest swap in the airboat world for you if that is a good running Cadillac. I am sure their is a couple guys out there that will give you a Small block chevy and engine stand in exchange for that caddy and your engine stand. There is no way to ever make a SBC perform...

Re: 556hp LSA vs. 600hp 418 Water Thunder

Dave just in case you thought I had laid it down, tomorrow I am installing a 3794 stage 2 turbo on my Duramax tomorrow! Exhaust manifolds, up pipes and down pipe. She should be over 700 hp and 1200# torque with room to improve once I stack CP3 pumps.

Re: 556hp LSA vs. 600hp 418 Water Thunder

I think everyone forgets that it is a good thing that LSA and WT418 are out there. If we did not have these new achievements it would not push guys like Dave to go bigger. We are really debating what shade of yellow is better, both engines are a great choice and a person would not be disappointed wi...

Re: 556hp LSA vs. 600hp 418 Water Thunder

I have read some of this and I can tell you for a fact I will never own another BB airboat, its all about power to weight. The strongest old school SBC boat I ever say was that 434 set up that Flying Fish built and sold to a guy down here in Port Lavaca. That kid drove that freaking boat over and t...

Re: BBC valve cover baffles

Look this has been done, I have posted pictures of how to do this. Go to home depo or lowes, purchase some of the clear hose with the string in it, put the hose on your valve cover pipes and run it strait up to the cage. Run the hose along the inside of the cage to the front of the top of the prop. ...

Re: Prop damage from drive belt Caddy DD 500

Wood props can break from an empty shotgun shell, you just never know. Now on to your Alt bracket. I have had this happen 3 times! The worse thing about it is your water pump is not spinning when that belt comes off. I tried better grade bolts, I tried bolts that where all shank and the threads stop...

Re: Anyone running a Cadillac 1:53 ratio

I don't know if this helps you but I ran a 1.7 with a 3 blade Falcon on an 18x7 Panther hull. The boat performed well with the set up but the Cadillac T rocker setup will not last if you run that engine in the 4000rpm range very long. I ran several different ratios and the one I liked the best was t...

You need to also state you bought an engine from Mast!!! I don't need to know you, I read your post, you bought an engine and you are repeating the manufacturer selling points. Listen to your post ( Why do you think they have separate tab for engines airboat versus cars, same as Dave tell you the t...

So let me get this strait, You think an LS engine on an airboat is different than an LS engine in a car? Re: Mast motorsports416 what oil

HuntingBigun I raced C6 corvettes, my engine was under a hood and 2" off the road, thus I had a very high oil temp. That said, how do you know your oil temps? Re: Mast motorsports416 what oil

20/50 Brad Penn. You need to run oil that has Zinc in it or you have to buy an additive like the Lucas Zinc additive. They have taken Zinc out of all the regular oils. Black I have run Brad Penn for years and it is a good oil but it is not a good choice for an LS engine. You can Call the Brad Penn ...

Re: Most reasonable crate SBC?

There is no one size fits all answer to this question. First off no two boats are the same and no two operators drive the same. There are some sure fire ways an airboat purpose build engine should be set up like the cam should have at least 110 sep so the exhaust valves run cooler, etc. The new age ...

Listen I don't care want anyone on the forum tells you, you will never get 30-30HP out of any ignition system unless your current ignition system is bad and costing you 20-30hp. 20 or 30 REAL NO BS HORSEPOWER is a good set of aftermarket heads. Good job for asking!!!!! I see so many people who waste...

It more than you want to spend but I feel the best bang for the buck is a turn key LSA crate engine.
