Re: How Can 300 hp Outperform 425?

I guess I didn't do a very good job of making my original point.

I was trying to say that even though GM says my motor makes 425 hp, in all likelihood I'm probably only getting around 300 to the prop - a little less than a healthy O-520.

How Can 300 hp Outperform 425?

Another thread got me thinking and I decided to put those thoughts on paper. I run a ZZ383 which from the GM Performance Parts website makes: "...425 horsepower at an incredibly low 5400 RPM..." Now here are couple of "caveats": "...GM's testing was completed using a GM single plane intake, P/N 1249...

Re: Does anyone still make hulls out of marine ply?

Back in the 60's when I was a kid my dad re-built a couple of fishing boats made out of marine plywood. He would lay fiberglass over the bottom and about a third of the way up the sides.

I believe a glassed over hull with poly on the bottom would be just about indestructible.

And help me out here Tony. Just what is your idea of "running the hill"? I mean, we are talking about Florida and not Colorado, right?

You should be ashamed of this post but I'm sure you aren't.

Why don't you take your hate & discontent somewhere else?

My boat is so bad it came with a switch that says "1", "2", and "Both".

I've never had to switch it on "Both" yet. 8)

Re: 501 cubic inch LS motor

Dave, Did you reach your goal of 700/700 with it? I guess he didn't reach it. GM is going to be (if they aren't already) offering a crate motor version LSX 454 with 620 hp. This isn't the big-block. It's the LS motor in cast iron rather than aluminum. Price is supposed to be between 12 and 14 K.

I had stacked 3b Ivos on my old 18' Alumitec barge with 454/425 and 2:1 belt drive. It ran like a scalded dog and ran the hill with ease. My problem was they just wouldn't hold up. The leading edge tape (it wasn't much thicker than the stuff used on ac ducts) would wear off and then the blade would ...

Just sayin' hey. I lived in Hitchcock '67 - '70. Was an Army Brat (long story). Loved it there. Been back a couple of times over the years. Still have a lot of heart and friends there.

Respectfully disagree.

The kewl factor is over the top, gets rid of the torque thingy when you stand on it, and for reasons I don't quite understand, doesn't make spray.

I don't have one, but sure wouldn't pass on one if everything else was right.

Plum, bad as I hate to, I have to defend our buddy Wayne. I know he's not much to look at and you wouldn't take him home to meet Mama, but he will come through in a pinch. If it wasn't for him (and ultimately Great Airboater Brad), me and the missus would have been in a bad spot one day around last ...

Chuckitt I hope I understand what you're saying. If I understand right we'll get to see a pair of big dogs run every 7th or 8th run? I think that's what the sport needs. A lot of guys aren't going to ask their wives to sit through several hours of ride boat races to see the excitement. I admit I got...

My wife and I left too. Right before six cylinder hunt boats. We thought the racing was supposed to start at 11:00 and it didn't actually start until after 1:00. I agree with the comments about the delays in staging. Honestly, watching the trucks getting stuck and pulled out across the way was more ...
