Re: Gearbox-Lycoming-GO-480-Engine

How does an aircraft gearbox hold up on an airboat..had any issues? Heard that A/C gearboxes were not designed for changes in RPM's.

Re: need good advice on a prop

I talked to Water Walker last week. The new Signature Series props for 6 cylinder aircraft have lighter tips so the spin up faster. The 74" will probably spin up as fast as a 72" or faster and the 74" has 50# more thrust then the 72". There is a 74" Power Plus in the Classifiedhttp://www.southernair...

Re: Getting a new airboat built

Never heard of 6065. I thought most builders used 5086 or 6061? Just looked at Luminum http://www.luminum.com/sheet/ and didn't see 6065 listed. A few years back most of the builders Diamondback, Alumitec, GTO, Marks's, Ronnie's and others usually used .190 (3/16) 5086 for the bottom and .125 (1/4) ...

Re: continue how to stop electrolysis in a aluminum boat

Sacrificial metals are called ANODES... not Zincs because zinc is actually a metal used in making anodes for steel boats/barges.When using an anode on an aluminum boat always use a Magnesium anode... NOT a Zinc anode. Zinc is higher in the metal chain (harder metal) and will not sacrifice before the...

Most commercial car motor people I talk to change oil at 25 hrs. I change my 0540 A/V aircraft oil @ around 25 hrs.

I like to hear what the motor people think about oil change intervals.

Hey Pete... good to see you posting. You got you answer now!!!

Dave, his boat is brand new, 2 weeks old. Won't a new engine loosen up after break-in, and the RPM's increase some?

Re: Aluminum hull OK in salt water?

Thanks Cowboy. How the new Woods Pussy coming along? http://www.luminum.com/data/ Study this page and one will learn allot about aluminum. Most welded boat builders use 5086 and 6061 for their bottoms and 5052/6061 for their sides. 5086 and 6061 have about the same tensile strength, 6061 a little st...

Re: Aluminum hull OK in salt water?

Here is a site with alot of aluminum info: http://www.luminum.com/ Usually airboat builders use 5086, 5052 and 6061 when welding airboat hulls because these all have anti-corrosive properties in these metals. When using "ZINCS" on an aluminum boat... make certain to use a "Magnesium Anode" because m...

I asked Junior Jurnigan the same Question a few years back and he said there wasn't any difference in performance between the 21/2" and 3" inch exhaust. I went with the 21/2 ".

With aluminum you need to use magnesium anodes not zinc.
