If so, I will be in contact since I will have my new home made boat this week end if the test and tune goes well. John Fenner built my boat and he is as good as they come. I've never insured a boat but this one I will.digginfool wrote:Do you insure airboats that are titled as home made?

Re: One star--two star--three star
This brings me back to a posting that I did a while back. Who are the ones that do not have stars. Are they honorary members for some reason? Members that have served our country and deserve free membership? Maybe they are but have not been recognized. (by choice) Or-- free loaders that take a free...

Re: One star--two star--three star
As I go through the threads, I look at how many stars are on the Avatar. I see many and I see none. There are many folks on the net that constantly follow SA but do not support it. It's like reading the news paper in the morning, you don't have to buy it any more and you take it for granted. It's l...

Re: My turtle season again
Only other way I could think to speed up the learning curve would be to visit or call someone who owns a turtle farm. Hopefully, when they find out you are not selling them, they will be open with info. As a general rule, the farms incubate their eggs. Many of them go out and hunt for their eggs. (...

Re: Wemt frogging
OK, I got up and won over my better half and went frogging. I left camp about 3:00 am and before I could say squat, the sun was coming over the horizon. The frogging was best at 4/4:30. Got some decent size for me and some small for the baby hawks. I have to keep some small ones because the chicks a...

I did not go the other morning. I got up but thought about it and my brain said NAAAA. Today I installed the new belt on the alternator and the weather looks decent so I'll try again in the morning. When I get up I'll converse with my better half and see which one wins.

Re: My turtle season again
I don't know the answers. Only advice is to leave some alone next year, cover some, place rings and cover some others. Then compare the results. My speculation: the poor hatch has nothing to do with you. Temp, pollutants, water levels, rain, the turtles dissatisfaction with the government. Who know...

My turtle season again
Rather than draaagging out the previous thread on my turtle hatch, I'll start a new one. For those that don't know, I have adopted the soft shell turtle in area 2A to help hatch, protect and release the hatchlings into this area. Very few of these have survived in the past 40 years since the ACE dug...

Good that you were prepared with that booster. Why waste a ride back without frogging it. Thanks for the frogging report. Do you find that LED lights work better for you instead of the landing light? Any recommendations? No doubt about it. I've used many lights over time. If you've never used an LE...

Wemt frogging
Been a while and I had the itch. Not much frogs just now but I wanted to get out. Left camp at 2:50 and had 2 frogs by 3:30. I had been using a 100 watt aircraft landing light and figured that I may have been missing a few so I shut down and changed over to my LED. Sure enough, there were a few frog...

No hatchlings yet. The ground temperature must be cooler this year that last. I have now surpassed last years lairs. I'm 90 or over. I'll get another count tomorrow. I've used all my stakes from last year and will cut more tomorrow. I picked up 10 more colanders a couple days ago and will ...

Hey Cherpa, I save myself even more trouble by not having that thing called a wife!!! It's just another bad 4 letter word to me! I had a wife once-------but her husband came and got her. :rebel: You're biggest fear is that he will bring her back in a few nights of catch up. But don't worry, she wil...

Re: my turtle season has started
The laying stops on the weekend because of boat traffic but come Monday morning they come in to do their job. Turtles can elect when to lay. I currently have 76 lairs marked on the island. (that I know of). The first is to surface about the 15th. Still more to lay and a lot to hatch. :toothy7: I had...

I'm sure that some of this is being posted on facebook by someone but I do not do facebook. Bishop Wright got me in the front door to the WRAC quarterly meetings and I am to present my proposal for "man made, floating turtle nesting islands" in Area 2A of the Everglades. Still a little early for me to say but I may be in for Saturday. I tend to be spontaneous. That's what my last wife liked about me, when I want it, I want it now.
Food of course, what were you thinking?

Re: my turtle season has started
I'm on a roll now. Over 50. 6 today. I missed one lair, maybe I will find it later. As soon as I find them, I mark them with a dated stake so that I will know when they will hatch. Then I cover the lair with a colander so that the Ibis will not find them and empty the lair. That's approx. $300 worth...

Re: 2nd Annual Veteran's Appreciation Day in the Glades
It's still a few weeks away and I have never been worried about airboat volunteers. Most will wait till a few days before to chime in because they are regulars and others wait to see if they are needed. To some, it is an inconvenience but (if needed) will come to "give back" and say thanks to some o...
