Re: my turtle season has started

Gerald, How can you determine the top of the egg after it has been removed from its original position in the nest? It is a soft-shell egg and half was opaque and the other half was translucent. Wow! I'm sorry for the delay. I dropped the ball. Apparently you found some eggs. The eggs you described ...

Re: Area 2A fishing etc

I've had mixed reports but it seems that 3A is drying up very fast and the ban was over extended. Today is the magic day. 3A is now officially open and hopefully the migrants will go back to their promised land. 2A is open to week enders and migrants but there is always problems when a rash of angry...

Re: 2nd Annual Veteran's Appreciation Day in the Glades

Camp old Glory is about friends and family. You don't have to swap blood like the Indians used to do, just show up regularly (every 5 years or so) and support our family. We do not have a club, we are family. The Veterans Appreciation Day event, the Youth Activity week end event through GFC/FWC/WMD/...

Re: Beware of ------------------.

If you spend some time on the forums you fast learn who the ass holes are! I think that there are 3 or 4 shall we say vendors who generate the majority of the grief. Me personally, I would like to see an open thread to post your experiences with merchandise or vendors but know Rick is responsible t...

Re: Beware of ------------------.

I have a lot to say about this issue (down south). A long time boat builder and some one close to him that will "fix" the "boat kit" that was handed to me. The boat may be finished in time for the Veterans Appreciation Day run. More WILL come with witness' to back up my statements.

Area 2A fishing etc

The northern part is now very low. Caution is advised. However, the frogging is good and the fishing is great. As the water goes down, the frogs and fish has to leave the sanctuary of the grass to open waters for food. All creatures are (or are coming into) mating season now. The Red Shoulder Hawks ...

OOPPSS, here I go again, trying to explain. I just read the last line in my post (from you're post) and realized that part of the last line in my post was incomplete. Out here, my computer will often stop working and if I don't "proof read" my posting, some of the posting will be left out. I failed ...

Re: tragedy at Holyday park?

I love how they are sure to include "Caucasian" as a descriptor. Lol 2000 blacks descend on a mall in Louisville and it's "teens" or "youths". As it is everytime. The one time some piece of crap, that is white, victimized someone and by God they are sure to include that. Gotta keep them optics up d...

Re: my turtle season has started

I had 2 more lay last evening. The third turtle did not lay (or hid the nest well) and did not come back this evening. I saw the first lay and got a full video of it. The second either laid while I was videoing or came back very late. I found her lair while I was mowing this evening. If the third la...

Dam that hurt me as much as it did you. I had the three turtles come back in this evening but only one of them laid. I got some great videos of them scouting the island and a great one of the turtle laying the eggs. I will go in to work tomorrow and should get back early to see the others come...

Fishing 2A

Steve Waters is a writer for the Sun Centinal in Lauderdale. He posted a fishing report recently for 2A. He was a week late. At the time that he gathered info, the fishing was off the chart here but about that time, SFWMD dumped water in here from the lake and changed the flow from westward to eastw...

Re: my turtle season has started

As I sit here, I have 3 soft shells on and off the island. They're skittish and reluctant. I have to wear a turkey screen while I move about the cabin because if they see my eyes, they will abort. It will help if I can see where they lay but not necessary. They come in at about the same time each da...

No. They will found close to brackish waters, not in land. If they were here, I would have wiped them out by now!

Gerald. After so many years of performing this turtle hatching ritual, you are surely one of the few folks that can walk up to them and ask, "Who's your daddy?" Rick, by now they're probably on a first name basis! Is it legal to have a baby softshell as a pet ... like in a small aquarium? "Ol...

my turtle season has started

Seems a little early this year but they are here. Instead of rabbits bringing the eggs, I get turtles. The day before Easter, the first turtle came in and laid. These are the soft shells. Another came in today but I scared it off when I came in to the basin after work. It will be back tomorrow to la...

Foggy frogging

I launched a frog survey the past few nights and was cut short twice by fog. :( It came in from the west. I was frogging east to west and once I hit fog, I would turn and frog back east. The first night I got back to camp alright but last night did not go well. I use the red tower lights for ...

Re: Paces to stay and ride in the everglades

St.Pete; The water has dropped dramatically here in area 2A and Camp Old Glory. The sliding is great and I can put you and the kids up here. I hosted a youth gator hunt here last weekend put on by FSCA with approx. 18 people for the 2 day stay. Fishing off the dock and bow/gig fishing and frogging a...

Frogs are between a rock and a hard place

Here in the glades, the water is devastating for many animals AND frogs. As the water came down from the north along with the rains here, the frogging has come to a halt. A friend of mine went down to area 4 a week ago and did not see even a set of eyes. I went out here about the same time with the ...

Thanks to all. I did have a great day. I went to work driving an airboat in 50 degree weather with high winds and what makes it so great is the fact that I can. It doesn't get much better than that. :toothy7:
