The argument over the years in favor of aircraft has always been weight and reliability. airboats with car motors have gotten a rep for motors that dont hold up under the rough conditions of running dry ground. Recently I was told that the new 6.2 liter all aluminum crate motors are actually lighter than either the 0540 or 0520 aircraft motors. Is this true? I realize that you still have a reduction unit and radiator and the water needed for cooling, but you are only talking 80 to 100 pounds more for a mot...

I have owned every configuration of boat and motor. caddy, big block chevy, small block, 0540 aircraft. I am running a 520 on a 13 foot diamondback currently. If i run all day at the lake I dont burn more than 20 gallons. My big block 502/502 would burn 40 gallons for the same amount of riding so do...
