Re: Need Prop advise

cntry... I cant tell you why. I bought the boat in June and this was how it was. I was told the engine was from a generator from WWII. I researched #s etc from the engine and finally found a pic online of a '69 IO-360. This is how I determined what I thought the motor to be. As for the block and why...

Re: What to do with "blow-by"

Thanks, Junebug. I will check them both out...along with Mr. Dixon. I am generally a very impulsive person. I just paid almost $400 for a new aviation oil cooler from Chief, then realized they have used ones on here for under 100. I will definitely attempt to research this time before jumping into s...

Re: What to do with "blow-by"

@ Junebug.. I'm in Warner Robins, GA. There is a small airport in Macon, just up the road, but there is no listing for a mechanic up there. I'll try to contact the airport itself and see if they have anyone that works on aircraft there. @ Yobee & AV8.. I will give Paul Dixon a try. I know Bainbridge...

Re: Need Prop advise

I'm in Warner Robins, GA. Not much call for airboat mechanics around here, but I do go to Donalsonville in south GA. It would be nice to find a good mechanic close to panama city or so.

Re: Swamp people

I'd love one opportunity to go down and hunt with them. Every time I see the part where JRs boy says "if you think you can do it, good luck to ya" I just wanna go down and show em my stuff. lol I can and HAVE done it, although not on that kinda scale

Re: What to do with "blow-by"

@ bannanaboat..no, I haven't, but if its an older model I dont see it being too hard. I just cant deal with computers and elec systems. lol

@ RAJ.. Haven't heard of that, but an autoparts guy told me you could get a vent cap for it....but he was not helpful in where to look to find one. lol

Re: What to do with "blow-by"

Wish I knew someone locally that could do the leakdown test. I have a 4 day a week job and 2 kids by myself. Only get 3 days off a week. I'd hate to drive down and spend the whole day just doing that.

Re: What to do with "blow-by"

yeah, I saw the shop in cocoa. Its definitely a good ride. Pretty sure I could take the cage off, tear the motor down, and do the ring job if I was certain what the motor truly is. One of the prev owners, my cousin, claims to have the original title to the engine, but has not been forthcoming with it

Re: What to do with "blow-by"

Cant find the engine videos, but will do another one and take pics as soon as I can see and post again for the advise. Just need to find someone who can work on it within a reasonable driving distance. I go to Donalsonville in south GA a decent amount and thats 3 hrs from here...almost 3 1/2 pulling...

Re: What to do with "blow-by"

I'll try to do that tomorrow. It seems my pics are too large to post on here. I tried to make them smaller, but they wouldnt upload. They still come out 1.3 MB or so. I DID post a pic of the boat under the pictures feature at the top of the site page. I may have to put the pics on there and put a li...

Re: What to do with "blow-by"

@Rich

thats complicated. Apparently a previous owner broke the dipstick and they cut a piece off and welded it back together, so there is no knowing if its right or not. I try to keep it a lil higher than where the stick says low, but cant say for sure if its correct

Re: What to do with "blow-by"

...and, no, it doesnt seem to slow down. It only blows out a small amount at a time, but oil spreads fast. Need to find someone who can suggest a better plan and do the work. I've been online all day and cant find a shop to work on it within several hundred miles. I know there has to be some in sout...

Re: What to do with "blow-by"

It's a complicated motor. The block is from a WWII Army generator and to the best of my knowledge (what I have been able to piece together from serial #s, etc on the net), the heads and all are from a 1969 IO-360. There are #s everywhere on the engine, block, heads, etc, but only found limited info ...

Re: What to do with "blow-by"

I'll try that again, Cowtown. I have called the few various aircraft mechanics between here and Atl and they all act like I've lost my mind when I ask if they can work on a motor attached to an airboat. lol

Thanks, Badlybent. I will do that asap. I attempted to find an aircraft mechanic here in middle GA, but no luck. I also have looked into airboat mechanics. None around Warner Robins. lol I visit Seminole county, GA quite a bit, but the only one I know down there I wouldn't trust with a paper boat. M...

What to do with "blow-by"

I have an aircraft engine on my boat with what I have been told is a blow-by. I was told by one mechanic that it would be ok to recirculate one into the other. I did that and it started smoking. I got a second opinion and they said it was lucky I hadnt blown the engine. The "blow-by" makes a conside...

Anybody ever tried wetlander? I ran across it online and have considered purchasing it. I know everyone claims to have the best, but their site IS pretty thorough

Re: Need Prop advise

Thanks, Whitebear! I was considering ordering the wetlander ultimate slickbottom application. I assume it would help, but afraid I would have to tear the whole boat down to apply it. I may be able to take it off the trailer and put it on blocks, but dont know how I'd paint it all at once

Re: Need Prop advise

@ Swampfox. Thanks for the input. It really does run fairly fast, I am just looking for some boost. I saw the boat a couple years ago and the previous owner drove it up the loading ramp, across the grass, and onto the trailer. By the time I purchased it, it doesn't seem to have that kind of power an...

Need Prop advise

I have a 16'X8' fiberglass airboat with a 1969 Continental IO-360 engine with a converted WWII generator block and a 76" wood prop. I bought it last June and am unhappy with it's performance. The boat and motor together are quite heavy and while it will move pretty fast, I would like to get more pow...
