Re: LSA reliability

So, being an LSA owner myself, here's my take on the engine. First, there are many people who have had good results with them. A buddy of mine uses one on his 18 ft tour boat and probably has a couple thousand hours on his by now with only one minor issue. He is very conscientious about maintenance ...

Look at you! You're serious about going CM, aren't you?

Absolutely correct. The more weight and the farther it is from the center of rotation, the more power it takes to accelerate. Simple physics.

Re: 502 power VS torque

Abrams M1 tank engine peak torque is 395 lb-ft. At peak hp torque is 275 lb-ft. And by the time you gear down the RPM from the gas turbine running, what, 30,000, to a usable value I'll bet the torque is 10 times that value before it hits the tranny. Sent from my [device_name] using Southern Airboat...

Re: 502 power VS torque

Have you ever noticed that a lot of times, the best way to get the boat moving is to stomp the accelerator and turn the rudder hard to make the boat jump on a turn? It will jump initially but then might stall out, standing on the throttle after that does nothing more, unless you rock the rudder. Yo...

Re: 502 power VS torque

Carmotor, I would be interested seeing ur same thrust test repeated with a 4 blade JX to see if it requires more or less hp to make same or more thrust. As you approached MBT, you Gained 200 lbs in several hundred (300) rpms. This is typical of a engine that's built for performance not economy. It ...

Re: Fuel Injector Help

Diggn, if you have the ability to adjust fuel pressure, keep adding pressure until the ms comes down. But something is wrong here. No reason the injectors gm supplies with the engine wouldnt be enough. Maybe they need cleaning, or fuel filter plugged, or u have low fuel pressure, fuel line too smal...

Fuel Injector Help

Ran Diacom on my engine again today and once again I've found a very disconcerting data point. The pulse width for my fuel injectors is hitting 23 ms. This is way too much as the maximum these injectors should see is 18 ms (they are rated at 54 lbs/hr). As much as I despise the MEFI system, I have d...

Re: 502 power VS torque

Probably one of the easiest ways to reconcile the difference between HP and Torque is torque accelerates, HP holds.

Re: 502 power VS torque

On another note can one of you fuzzy math geniuses educate me on the 5250 dynamic? Why does horsepower "always" eclipse torque at an rpm above 5250 and as as such would torque not then be more relevant to usable power and therefore of more value in an airboat? I'm not going to go into the derivatio...

Diggn, my boat runs ground with 4 adults, full cooler 40 gallons of fuel at 3000 rpms or less at 15' welded deckover. I've not seen many boats that even come close. Be honest. The LSX is a purpose-built platform designed for high HP applications. Yes, you can get it with an iron crank but I'm betti...

Re: Airboat Engine Builds - Automotive

... Bottom line if you ask a motor builder that knows how to build an Airboat motor they will tell you nothing is harder on a motor than an airboat. I know that is a common belief among airboater, but it's simply not true. Ask yourself, whats harder, 1000 miles in a Baja truck or 1000 miles in an A...

Re: Airboat Engine Builds - Automotive

Cracked pistons is a rpm or tune related failure and is a very rare problem. I don't think it is as rare as you think. After I had a hypereutectic piston shatter in my BBC, I did some research and found that it was an extremely common occurrence in the marine application of that particular motor (8...

Re: Deja Vu All Over Again

Hell yeah, glad u figured it out. Do you think that was the problem with the first engine? The first time was a bad coil from day one. Since I never knew the engine with all 8 cylinders running, I didn't realize there waa something wrong. This time, was a bad injector and probably corrosion of some...

Well, she sure sounds pretty when she's running on all eight! 8) Tried to ohm out from injector plug to ECM and nothing. Split the injector harness from the main and it ohmed out fine. Then tried from the plug on the main harness to the ECM connector and it ohmed out. So, now I'm thinking bad ECM bu...

Re: Deja Vu All Over Again

Can u test across the 2 pins while turning the engine over to see if the ecm is making the ground? Going to get a noid light. Well, I spoke too fast. New injector, still not firing. Here's what is certain; I have spark, I have compression, have 12 volts on the injector plug, old injector definitely was dead. The last thing I can think of is possibly the other side of the injector circuit. The way it works is the hot side i...

Re: Deja Vu All Over Again

Is this a GM ecm? If so is it locked? If so, I know a shop that can crack the password, unlock it and adjust the tune . Re: Deja Vu All Over Again

Okay, so the final word is definitely dead injector. Thanks to LS Matt from FB for his input. I attempted to clean the injector but it is toast. Put twelve volts to it and nothing. Thought maybe I was doing it wrong so tried the injector next to it and it buzzed like crazy. Looks like I'm doing a ne...
