Re: Park at 2A Loxahatchee Road?

Don't do it if you value the finish of your truck. Between the asshole kids doing donuts at night and the buzzards ripping your wipers and molding off the truck in the morning, not to mention the sh*t, sand and claw marks, your truck is going to get tore up. That being said, I've never had my truck ...

Re: Prop VS Motor: Airgator, LS2 6.0, Sensenich NEED ADVICE

Look to see if all injectors are firing. Get yourself a set of noid lights and make sure all the injectors are getting the signal to fire. It's a real simple test and the kit is under $40 on the high side. Make sure you're getting spark on all cylinders as well. I've had both issues with my LS; bad ...

These guys are in Clearwater. I bought their GXP. Reasonably priced and not welded, plus sizes big enough to fit the entire bottom. I put it on a 12' sled. Bought it 14x7, if I remember right. Give them a call. https://www.tse-industries.com/products/duro-glide-uhmw-pe-and-hdpe-plastic-sheets/gatorb...

Re: Water Walker vs sensenich

I've had experience with both WW and Sensenich on the same boat, same engine. I'll be happy to tell you my thoughts but the significance really leads back to Kwan's and Deano's first post; what engine, what boat, what purpose? That being said, I have a 15 ft DB with oval tube aluminum rigging runnin...

Re: Engine question???

A healthy BBC with the 2.38 will definitely be a good combo. The Sensenich website states max RPM at 2,800 but if I remember correctly most people are shooting for around 2,200 - 2,400 RPM max with the R. With that gear, you are looking at max engine speed of ~5,250 - 5,700 RPM. Choose your cam and ...

Vibration

I've got a strange vibration that sets in at 3,500 RPM and pretty much clears up by 4,100 RPM. It feels like a harmonic rather than something out of balance and I've spent a good deal of time making sure all four blades on the prop are set the same. I've also looked throughout the engine for any loo...

Re: LS7 Trouble Code and Problems

Obviously, an old post but I have a MEFI system and I've been through the wringer with it. The Rinda software (Diacom) is a very powerful tool but to really get to the heart of things, you have to have the MEFI service manual. It will really help you diagnose issues. I don't have it on the computer ...

Re: Engine suggestions

If power vs weight with a focus on fuel economy with a big boat "Cadillac" should be screaming in your head. No platform can do that better with the advent of aftermarket EFI options. A Branch roller 542 or 555 mated to a 2.55 drive with 4 big monster blades is the Rx for that load. Shame ur not cl...

Re: Is my thinking correct about reduction and pitch?

That's a lot of boat for a SBC. While you might get some additional performance I don't believe it will be anything significant. You need more power, period. A very healthy LS with more gear would be one path, however, a boat that size would most likely be better off with a Big Block. I would put so...

Re: Engine suggestions

I second the thought of staying away from crate engines as well as companies like Levitator or Marine Power (all they use is a crate engine and they don't hold up in the long run the way a purpose built engine will). You could get away with an LS if you went counter-rotator but by the time you buy t...

What are the risks of hitting an engine with NOS at such low RPMs and high load? What do you do about preventing detonation?

Re: 408 Ford stroker build underway! Direct drive

I had a 392 stroker with Z heads and Webers in my kit car. Was an absolute torque monster. I always wondered how that engine would have done on an airboat. I'll be watching this thread.

Exhaust Cones

Has anybody ever used exhaust cone inserts like the Vortex? I recently had to ditch my mufflers due to excessive back pressure. Right now running open exhaust (I have 4 feet of 3" flex pipe after the headers) which I'm sure doesn't make me any fans. I don't see how an insert could reduce sound level...

Re: Need help with 454

To clarify what I meant. If a props rpm range Is say 1750-2250 like the whirlwind sw and your spinning the prop 2000 rpm in the middle of its pitch range, why does it matter if the motor has a 2:1 and is doing 4000 rpm or a 2.3 and doing 4600 or a 2.5 and doing 5000 rpm. The prop speed and pitch st...

I bet we got 3 to 4 inches in Coral Springs and the radar showed the heaviest rain out west of us. I don't see any way they won't be closing 3A and the Indian lands next week. For the last 3 or 4 weeks they've been dumping water into 2A. From there it goes out through the Hillsboro canal, the C14 or...

AND The Saga Continues, V. 2.0

I'm starting to hate carmotor boats. My aircraft boat ran for years without any serious issues save for one starter and a prop mounting plate. My carmotor boat has nearly made me famous. So, back on February 24, I'm out riding with four other boats late at night when we decide to head to anoth...

Re: 496 vs 540 BBC

I was in the middle of a little more involved answer but mouse is correct; the 1050 is probably your best bet between the two. But, one way to look at it is that a BBC is probably not going to be set up to turn more than 5,400 RPM. With that in mind, every two revolutions will have completed the cyc...

Re: 496 vs 540 BBC

First, no substitute for cubic inches. Second, I would go with the 2.3 ratio. That's a big boat and you'll be able to turn more prop with the higher ratio. Also, it seems the 496 is built for higher RPM performance which is not necessarily what you're looking for in an airboat engine. You want a wid...

Re: LSA reliability

OneBFC, my last point sums up the argument everyone has made with you regarding this subject. An automobile, or even a truck, is under less load at the same engine speed as an airboat is for all but the lightest of boats. I would guestimate my airboat weighs in the vicinity of 3,000 lbs. Easy. Fifte...

Re: LSA reliability

OneBFC, you've repeated that many times but it may not necessarily be true for every application. Using Diacom, I can monitor all aspects of my engine. I'm turning an 81.5 inch 4 blade NGR and at 3,400 RPM, a typical cruise speed for me, I'm pulling 4.1 psi boost, burning 10.73 gph. At 3,800 RPM, wh...
