Re: Rudders and prop clearance

So if I go with the swivel style, do you have any pics or drawing on turning the fan from remote using teleflex. My fan will weigh about 300 to 400 lbs so I'm going to need mechanical advantage as well as a good bit of travel. Teleflex may not cut it.

Rudders and prop clearance

I am building a push fan for my boat. Most of these are set up on a swivel which allows reverse as well, but I do not need reverse. I've been thinking about going with rudders instead. Here is my plans. I have a 35-40 HP Onan 4cyl engine. I plan to swing direct drive a 52" - 54"low pitch wide paddle...

Re: Help needed

Zrackers, You should do yourself a favor and contact Chuck at Airboat Pros. He probably has more experience with those type setups than anybody, and likely both with and without a reduction of some sort. Doing so will save to time, grieve and money. I got up with chuck and he sent me to arrow prop ...

Re: Help needed

I cant find any info online on the engine either. Its $300, which is a fraction of the cost of the cheapest used briggs I can find. If it wont sling a prop, I'm sure I'll figure out a use for it. The old man and I are working on some crazy project or another at any given time.

Re: Help needed

J120 ms/807B is the model on the data plate. You can't convert generator power to engine power that way as an alternator always shows a huge loss of efficiency. I know the 2 cylinder models in a miller 220 are either 18, 22, or 26 horse. In guessing this 4 cylinder will output 30-40 hp which will be...

My old man is picking it up today. I haven't seen it, but it looks like opposing cylinder from the pics.

Re: Help needed

Guys use Briggs 30 and 35 hp motors for this same purpose and they are very similar to to the onan. All the Briggs I've seen, the prop has been bolted directly to the output shaft of the engine. Most of these engines do top out around 3 grand or just above.

Help needed

Its sure been an interesting start. I'm out some money and still no prop from a member of the site, but I am not letting it stop me. I am wanting to build a trolling fan to put on my 20' jon boat for bow fishing, frogging, and gator season. I found a 4 cylinder Onan motor, probably 35-40 HP. I need ...

Re: Help and advice needed.

My boat drafts less than 6 inches empty and this rig will prolly weigh 500 lbs or so, but I'm gonna set it as far forward of the transom as feasible to try to keep level. Ad two guys to the front deck firing bows and I figure 10" draft and mostly level. If it gets stuck, we will do what any reasonab...

Re: Help and advice needed.

I think I understand what you're wanting to do...are you wanting to leave the outboard on? A couple years ago I built a removable setup for my 17' semi V to bowfish, and flounder with. I used a 16 hp Honda with a 36" prop. It would push the boat around 8-10 mph when it wasn't dragging in the mud an...

Help and advice needed.

I am wanting to do a variation of some setups I have seen, but never dealt with fans and need some advice. I want to do a fan stand like is done with the vanguards on some of the bowfishing rigs that I have seen. Problem is that my boat is: 20 foot long 8 foot wide monster and fairly heavy. Semi v n...
