Re: Update on our high school airboat project

Thanks for the comments guys we really like to hear the feedback. Justin, be careful what you say we might just have to take you up on that. You did an awesome job on this engine. Re: Update on our high school airboat project

Busy week this last week, got the boat out of the garage and started it up. Turned the key one time and it was purring like a kitten. Then the engine oil cooler line let go, oil everywhere. Got home that night at 10:00 PM. Next on Friday we started it up again, I let the engineer for building the en...

Re: Update on our high school airboat project

We get info from a lot of different people. The theory behind that left foot pedal is that if you get stuck and you have to get out of your boat to break loose you could run the pedal and rudder from outside the boat ( Not because you want to because you have to). Thanks for your input, we like to h...

Re: Update on our high school airboat project

Well my students got pretty excited today. I brought the hull in and set the engine stand in it. Starting to look like an airboat. We went to drill the holes to mount the stand and then we realized we couldn't get a drill in there to drill a straight hole. Next job to find someone with an angle dril...

Re: Update on our high school airboat project

Thought I would post a few more pictures from this week. Home made cable ends and clamps, home made throttle pedal and a few others. We are hoping to set the whole works in the boat and bolt it down this week but we have a short week so who knows what will happen. http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k...

Re: Update on our high school airboat project

Well yesterday we laid out the exhaust pipe slots for the inner tube. One of my students got going on them today and finished the slots in the first tube. http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k292/CWAIS/AIRBOAT%20BUILD/100_9471_zps55d22b9d.jpg http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k292/CWAIS/AIRBOAT%20BUIL...

Re: Update on our high school airboat project

Pierson Skunkape on the SA Forum had offered us some help from his MufflerMan Shop in Daytona, Beach. So we figured we would try and make up some mufflers and if they didn't work out we would have to call up Travis and get some schooling on mufflers. Here is a picture of some stainless tubing we sta...

Re: Update on our high school airboat project

It's been a few days but here are a couple of pictures of one of my students making bushings for our prop hub. A little drilling, some turning and bammmmmmm a perfect fit. http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k292/CWAIS/AIRBOAT%20BUILD/100_9470_zps1eb5489d.jpg http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k292/CWA...

Re: Update on our high school airboat project

Well it's Homecoming week here, but we are still getting some work done here. We still have to put in some bracing between front and rear mounting legs. Oil cooler mounts and and fuel pump mounts are in. The seat and floor stands need their bracing put in place. We need to weld in our grounding tabs...

Re: Update on our high school airboat project

Couple of pictures of our latest problem and how we are fixing it. When we were starting to put on the engine mounts we noticed that the intake tubes were in our way, so this is what we did. http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k292/CWAIS/AIRBOAT%20BUILD/100_9251_zpsdb1d9004.jpg We first bored out some...

Could you tell me why the T-bars are avoided ?
Is it just easier to use bolts and locking nuts ?
Just want to use the information as a teaching tool to justify our rights and wrongs.
Thanks Chuck

Re: polymer question

Sounds just like the poly we put on our school project boat last weekend. I worried about the same thing before we put it on. I was assured by four different people that it was just what I wanted.

Re: Update on our high school airboat project

Well we have been waiting for some 90+ degree days up here in wisconsin and last sunday was the day it was going to happen. It was time to put on poly !!!! Re: Update on our high school airboat project

Well a couple questions # 1 We ordered poly from Nikki up here in Wisconsin from Horne Plastics, a piece for the bottom and two pieces for the sides, she gave us a really good deal. Our plan is to drill and tap each hole, add locktite and drive stainless flathead screws. We are going to stagger bolt...
