Re: Cadillac 500 - HOLY GRAIL

Ted the drive we run now is a 2.55 Ox

Think I'll save it for a direct drive build for one of the kids. Let them start out like I did.

Had a 1.53 back in the day sold it to an old boy who is gonna use it on a Paxton style supercharged 540 aircraft build.

Ain't that right JeffRo !

Re: bulldozer prop.

Dear DiggingFool I avoid the word TORQUE on Southern Airboat as for the past 5 years the HORSEPOWER BOYS have preeched that "torque aint shizt" and horsepower is all that matters. So to appease the HP crew and keep peace on the thread the word TORQUE was removed from my dictionary. But like giving a...

Re: bulldozer prop.

The message I will give you is you don't have to spin a blade at its highest safe rpm to get push.

If you wanted to build speed I would say peak your blade speed.

For push you want power, pitch and wide blades.

Where are you located at ?

Re: bulldozer prop.

So you say you can get 750 @ 5500 We will use that as a constant. At 2.0 that gives a theoretical mechanical advantage twice the input making 1500 At 2.55 that 750 leveraged by ratio can yield a theoretical 1912 When you get to building serious efficient engines and try to add in another 75hp the co...

Re: FiberGRASS Rake - Newest Thing Going

A fiberglass grass rake is not a common item. Most guys make a metal tube rake. If your need is a fiberglass rake you have two viable options at first glance. 1) You can find a local boat repair shop and see how much they would charge to fabricate a rake for you. That would be the best fit and mount...

Chuck passed away last year.

He sold Bray hulls and the grass rakes were made by Mr. Bray for his boats.

Re: any built a dd sled ....in progress of finishing my just curious if they slide right with carmotor

If I remember correctly the 400 block and crank are not standard. The journals are beefier which is ideal for a DD build.

Keep an eye out there have been some 400 parts listed in the classifieds and on Craigslist.

Good luck with the build.

Re: any built a dd sled ....in progress of finishing my just curious if they slide right with carmotor

Looks like it moves real well for you Ben. The best direct drive small block Chevy that Inpersonally have seen run had a 400 small block out of a 1973 Caprice Classic. The thing your after is power below 3100 rpm so the way to get it is stroke and displacement. If you decide in the future to repower...

I watched it late last night and never even noticed the crows diving in to break it up before the big boar showed up.

Now I'm wondering if in fact the boar was coming to the rescue ?

First thing is that type of issue can be dangerous as hell. If she goes to the nose at full throttle and catches a corner the risk of spin is very high. If you have never "SWAPPED ENDS" at wide open let me warn you it is a scary event. At wide open you have no reserve power to power out and the more...

Re: Are AGM batteries suitable for airboats? If so, which ones?

Run it on a single battery. If needed you can start on both and then switch to a single. Just don't turn the switch to off with the engine running it can spike the voltage. The charging system is best suited to work with a single battery.
