Re: Rebuild, replace, or convert a 220???

sell an start over gives you the option to buy a better hull in the process

I don't know if you can see it in this old plate picture, but the inside of plates should have bevel cut just like case and cylinder for Orings to make the seal

Re: Starter Bolts came loose.

I'd check/re-torque all bolts the first 30 min, first hour,5th hour, 10th hour that may be a little over kill but after that it should be good locktite an a star washer work pretty good most the time , if you still have the issue you can either run a plate with tabs to fold up to stop bolt form back...

Me personally I wouldn't ever cut my stick short

if your buying form a local dealer ask if you can try spinning them both up on the trailer at their shop to decide , but if it where me I'd stay at least the 70" if that's all you can swing

Reply 2 I work at a car dealership and was talking to a old retired aircraft mech. He said removing the balancer would alow for the cam to acomplish a taller stroke durring it rotation but said if this has been done it would jepordize the case and shorten the life of engine. removing the counterweights has nothing to do with "accomplish taller stroke"

Re: anyone running 0720 on their boat

I agree with Deano, just junk that nasty car motor and put one of them 0-720 on that hull you'll will not have to worry about buying a gear box or getting stuck.

you didn't mention a price and that will make a big difference if you will get people interested or not

why not just run one heavy ground form battery directly to starter , if you want a 2nd ground strap go form battery to engine case Do not run a ground wire to your starter. Only positive leads are on the starter. Starter is grounded through its frame to the engine block. starter bolts to bracket th...

Re: Gpu 220 to 470 pistons?

Well, bought my first boat. And on the first run, spun a rod bearing in an old single mag gpu. So been doing lots of research. I have a basic plan. I could use some expertise on filling in finer details. Pull apart 220. Replace all the bearings ands seals Dual mag conversion on the jugs Chrome the ...

if your hull bottom is flat an true like you said then level your motor with the bottom and make small adjustments to get it back right, making all these other changes is just making it worse, but hey what do I know anyway. Re: need help 12' gpu setup !!

I say your issue is probably in the motor angle set up either having the bow digging in an plowing or lifted so high that its jumping out of the water. The best thing IMHO to do to save alot of headache is find someone local whos how to set it up an get them to help you

Temporarily wire motor ro run forward with no switch. You are using same windings and same start cap in both directions. Only thing different is the switch. This is the only configuration that I have gotten Forward, if you see something I should have wired differently in the diagram let me know. If...

Re: Any electricians use to the old two way capctior motors

Welllllllllllllll when I wired the drum switch 8-9-10?? years ago it only ran Reverse an worked fine for the stuff I was doing until now, that's the way I called "original" on my wiring diagram . In the original wiring Forward & Neutral where both "off"-- so I basically had the switch wired wrong or...

Re: Any electricians use to the old two way capctior motors

The load is the same as normal. I can still turn it on to reverse and run the lathe with a load (cutting material) but if I stop an change to forward it is as described above so I don't think anything is wrong with winding. I'm going to get some help to pull lathe back out so I can get Capacitor off...
