Re: Mean little 4 cyl.
Get some O-541 cyls on a 4 cyl case with high comp Pistons.
I have seen a couple of boats with 541 lycoming cylinders. I want to say one was on a Lycoming case with cylinders upside down, and one on a continental case. Been awhile.

I am in the landscape business and have a few of both of those models. Whichever one you get, get the aggressive chain from the dealer if they have it. Not the anti-kickback safety chain. Night and day difference. The 250s are the ones my guys grab most of the time.

I bought some of the no myth gig heads a few years ago, with some replacement tines. And they also had gig poles. Excellent product!

This boat is owned by Manatee county. Bought to use as a spray boat, and didn't work out, as I understand. Has pretty heavy poly on it.

Re: Tuning Holley 500 for rebuilt gpu 220
I was thinking more about CHTs with the domed pistons. Other than a cooling shroud, more fuel is about the only way to cool these things. Of course the weight of boat, depth of water, and a lot of other things can affect this. No disrespect intended to you, John F, I know you know your stuff

Re: Tuning Holley 500 for rebuilt gpu 220
With the domed pistons, I would err on the rich side. 76 or 78 (no power valve) with 100LL only. Been there, done that, and learned the hard way.

Limpkins were hunted almost to extinction for food, if that tells you anything. Now they are a species of special concern, according to the FWC.

Re: Rebuild, replace, or convert a 220???
I am a member of the broken chromed crankshaft club. If I were you, I would just keep replacing cylinders as they need it, as long as bottom end is reasonably good, and ride out. If I was going to do a 520 conversion, or high compression pistons, I would want a std-std crank. And the extra several h...

Re: Aircraft Engine List
Thanks Air ranger, but someone on here put together or found a comprehensive list of pretty much every aircraft engine ever made, and all the specs. It's been years ago. I've searched this site and the internet but have been unable to find it.

Aircraft Engine List
I remember seeing on SA several times where someone posted a list of pretty much every aircraft piston engine ever made, with all the specs dates etc. I have searched and searched, but cannot find it. Need some help. Thanks in advance

I got insurance for my hunting lease through Buckmasters. Came with free subscription. Now I get calls almost every day from Buckmasters, trying to sell me stuff I already have. I will never deal with them again.

I think what twister is saying is that there were no true aircraft carbureted 520s. Only injected. IO-520, GTSIO-520, TSIO-520, etc. Somebody put a carb on it at some point.

I'm not a big conspiracy theory guy, but I sure hope it wasn't somehow in the way of the Feds plans. I know there was a group trying to raise funds to restore it. Just seems unlikely that it would spontaneously combust?

do you have a CHT gauge? If not check your plugs make sure its not too lean. Lean condition will increase rpms. I speak from experience, ive blown up a couple GPUs with dome pistons.

I wouldn't build one without a standard crankshaft (hasn't been turned). And they are getting hard to find.
