Re: Airboat Hull jet boat?

The one I saw was not that technical. It had the motor inside the hull and the pump outside. It was all slide all the time! That flat bottom had zero grip in the turns.

Re: Airboat Hull jet boat?

I saw one buried up in the bushes a few years ago! It was an old 11' Gore w/ a 1100cc motor and jet. It was a cobbled up mess but would haul ass in a straight line. It had zero control in the turns, and with the very low center of gravity it would break loose and slide. Once it started sliding there...

Re: 351w carb tuning

Where are you located? I have a great holley 500 and an adapter plate you could try. Mine was set up for a circle track car, I got it from a friend of mine that races. I used it to run my 521 c.i. BBF to break it in. I didn't go back and look, what cam are you running? What kind of compression ratio...

Re: 351w carb tuning

Personally, I think you have to much carb. A 520 cubic inch Continental only needs 485 cfm @ 2900 rpms. I would be willing to bet that a 500 holley with a 50cc accelerator pump would be much more crisp and deliver better performance than that 450. It is as much about fuel/air velocity and atomizatio...

Re: E225/520 build

I would start collecting cylinders and parts to convert the 220. If your bottom end is good there is no reason to start over. A converted 220 / 520 will kick the crap out of any E225. (IMO) Just build an intake and put a Holley 500 on it no need for an expensive MA4-5.

Re: Continental IO360

I know the hp is close to the Lycoming 360, I wonder if Cont. has more torque due to the 6 cylinder. Also, does it shake you fillings lose at idle like the Lycoming?

I downloaded the users manual. It shows all models @ 2800rpm except for the turbo. They are 2575 to 2750

Continental IO360

Why is it that air boaters don't use the Continental OI360? I was surfing around last night and found plenty of them for sale. They are at least 210 hp and only 35 lbs heavier than a O360 that might only be 180hp. There has to be a reason and I'm curious to know why.

Re: 0 420 i think

Someone will have to help me on this one but I think there is a plug on either side of the block behind the flywheel. I have never seen a GPU that was dry sumped. That oil pan is so big you could almost turn it on its side and still pick up oil!

Re: 0 420 i think

If you have a carburetor on top it sounds like you have a 470 ground power unit. Here is a mount and cooler set up I just installed on my 520 aircraft engine. I purchased a 4 foot box break from Northern tool, this is my first official project, it took me about three hours. The cooler is a MishiMoto...

Re: Tuning a Lean Running O-540 & 6AA / M5-4 Carbs

You have several problems, remedies & conclusions that parallel my own experiences. For me, fuel injection was the biggest single factor in keeping my engine cool. I tried all of the spark plug and timing tricks you outlined and screwed with a perfectly good carb for several months. Yes my motor was...

IO470 cylinders

Does anyone have a cylinder cross reference for Continental? I have a set of cylinders, stamped TM625859AS on the base, green stripe on the base also. I cant find that part # anywhere and trying to figure out what they are.

Re: 520 Continental rebuild

I originally had the Facet pump on the boat, but the fuel pressure was low. It fluctuated between 2.5 and 4.5. I took it off and installed a Carter and got 7.5, but that pump quit working Saturday afternoon and I had to put the Facet back on. I installed a fuel bulb and it will fire off when you pum...

Re: 520 Continental rebuild

I have one on it now, but its before the water separator. It doesn't seam to have enough pressure. If I squeeze the fuel bulb until I hear fuel squirt into the cylinders in will fire right up.

Re: 520 Continental rebuild

I got it all buttoned up on Saturday, went to watermelon pond Sunday and ran it around. The motor runs fantastic, it runs and sounds smoother from idle out to 3100 rpms. Yes I turned it 3100 for just a second, with a 72'' NGQ set on 3. I will adjust the prop this week. The throttle response is amazi...

Just testing the waters. Actually I would need a 435 or 480 gearbox. I know the 540 has the mag drives on it.

Re: Lycoming gearbox wanted

Just thinking about something like that. I have a 470 run out that I can use as a test mule. I also have a Roush supercharger in need of a project. I have a wife and 3 daughters, if I don't come up with a new project every weekend I will end up at the mall!

Re: Whites Performance Chevy 540 BBC

I had a buddy purchase a set of aluminum BBF heads from Whites (Pro Comp) for a budget build mud truck. They claimed to only use bare heads from Pro Comp and work them up with premium parts. He paid for minor runner and bowl work and premium valves and springs. He got bowls and runners that look lik...

Re: Tuning a Lean Running O-540 & 6AA / M5-4 Carbs

BTW, I watched the video you posted. My old wide deck 180 sounded like that and it had a loose valve seat. It ate its self one afternoon on the way back to the ramp and required a new cylinder and a pushrod.

Gator,
I have almost finished installing the fuel injection on my 520. I was talking to Joey at Southern Fuel Solutions about tuning this afternoon, he says we need to be chasing a 14.8 AFR.

Slidin Gator, Once again you and I may be related. Check out the little jewel I got. It is a cut down airgator with a 0290. Soon to be upgraded to something a little meaner! It goes fine now but the former owner had a wide deck 180 on it and it was a handful.
