Re: 520 Contential Carb Questions

I was hoping it was a 470 carb that needed to be modified.

520 Contential Carb Questions

I have a 520 with a 10-4404 carb. Serial # r-44-10472. Its on a 13ft river master with a 72" NGQ. Or what ever the one is with the wide blade and the wingtip . The engine runs great, very responsive, idles great, it has good power and is fantastic on fuel. The problem is it will not turn over 2...

Re: Orange lake public ramp next to Georgia's bar gator hunt

I have been putting in at the RV park on the south shore, off of 318. It costs $3, but I am usually the only one there. I have been breaking in a new 520 and don't want to burn it up trying to get beyond the island.

Re: Oil cooler and lines

Go on the Hayden website and get the part # for the size you want, then go to Amazon and buy it. That's the cheapest I found. I then bought the fittings from NAPA, installed the cooler and measured for hoses. NAPA built the hoses as well. About $200 total.

Re: Ford engines?

GTO airboats used Ford 514, 460 and 351w crate motors up until the early 2000s. Their big boats w/ 514 crate motors with a 2.3 gear box and 3 blade power shift props were bad ass. The big block Ford has a huge bottom end, (bearing sizes) and withstood the punishment better than the 502 Chevy crate m...

Re: 520 Contential, no oil pressure

Oil pressure update: Everything is good. took the boat to engine builder Friday. Primed the pump, turned it over, still very little pressure, adjusted the oil pump spring, got it to show pressure. Aircraft starter just not spinning over fast enough. Flipped the switches on, busted right off, PRESSUR...

jopete, if asking for help means I don't know what I'm doing to you, then that means you must know in all! I have no use for a know it all because you are incapable of communicating with normal people. You seem to be the only one who is quick to think I got screwed. I talked to the engine builder th...

Re: 520 Contential, no oil pressure

I did not prime the pump. I assumed the pump would pick it up fairly quickly. As for calling out the engine builder, that's a bull$hit comment! The engine has been sitting under my workbench for nearly two years. things happen GROW UP!

520 Contential, no oil pressure

How long should it take to get oil pressure? I have a fresh built 520, engine builder said to take the top plugs out and spin the motor over with the starter until I have pressure. I have spun the thing over, 30 - 45 seconds at a time. NO PRESSURE! I thought I might have a bad sensor, so I took it o...

Re: 520 Contential updraft vs down draft.

I did a "cfm calculator" on 520 CID @ 3100 rpm, yesterday. The charts show a "stock" engine only needs 490cfm. Even a "performance" engine was less than 550cfm. What it did not account for was how much fuel was needed to cool an air cooled engine. I had the brilliant id...

What exactly did you weld on the intake? The center divider? That's about the only thing that looks "touched". It should be nasty!

Better fuel economy on the up draft or the down? I have never known a Holley to get better fuel economy in any application!

Re: 520 Contential updraft vs down draft.

I don't know about all that, I just want to know if there is an advantage or dis-advantage to running the Holley mounted in front of the engine as opposed to the up draft carb mounted in the front of the engine below the oil pan.

520 Contential updraft vs down draft.

I have a true aircraft 520 w/ the double down intake and updraft carb. Has anyone ever really done the testing to see which carb setup works best? I realize the updraft is how they run on aircraft, but is there any advantage to a manifold with a Holley or other carb set up.

I went by and checked on it yesterday, engine stand is finished and seat package is over 75%. It looks great and is much lighter that the aluminum rigging that came out of the boat. I'm very happy with it.

I need a new engine stand and seat package for my 13" Rivermaster w/ a 520 Contential. I would like it to be stainless. I have been trying to build one my self for several months but I have to many projects already. I know what I want. Call me if you have time to do it and lets talk about it. I...

Re: Gearbox for aircraft engine

I guess I should have asked if there is a gearbox made that is roughly 33% underdrive for the A/C motor. That is what the gear nose on a 480 is. The boxes I see advertised for car motors are 2-1 or 50% underdrive. I think it would take a 4 blade 80'' to slow down my 520 Cont. with a 2 -1 box.

Re: Gearbox for aircraft engine

What kind of rpm would you need to run on an A/C motor to make a gearbox work. I had a GSO480 w a gearbox. I was only turning the prop about 2300rpm @ WOT. (3400 rpm on the motor) The thing had a hair trigger, seemed like it only had idle or wide ass open. I didn't like it.

Re: Ultrasonic Vibrational Hull Technology

We install vibrators on dump truck bodys. They shake hard enough to break welds on 1/4 steel. They cost about $750 and weigh around 60 lbs and are 12v powered. They are used when hauling sticky material such as gumbo clay or very fine material that becomes compacted during travel. (pot ash) for exam...
