Re: Gearbox for aircraft engine

What kind of rpm would you need to run on an A/C motor to make a gearbox work. I had a GSO480 w a gearbox. I was only turning the prop about 2300rpm @ WOT. (3400 rpm on the motor) The thing had a hair trigger, seemed like it only had idle or wide ass open. I didn't like it.

Re: Ultrasonic Vibrational Hull Technology

We install vibrators on dump truck bodys. They shake hard enough to break welds on 1/4 steel. They cost about $750 and weigh around 60 lbs and are 12v powered. They are used when hauling sticky material such as gumbo clay or very fine material that becomes compacted during travel. (pot ash) for exam...

Re: 540 vs 3 Blade Prop vs Harmonics

I worked at an airport in St. Augustine, FL as a younger man, building and rigging aerobatic airplanes for both sport and competition. (Pitts S1s and S2s and Extra 200s and extra 300s) Without exception, all of the customers running high performance 540s wanted a 3 blade when running a carbon fiber ...

Re: 72" Q prop

How does your boat perform? I am building the same boat minus the fuel injection. Does your boat hop like a frog, or do you use a trim tab? My hull had a trim tab before I bought it, and was rigged w/ a 0540. I anticipate needing one before its over. Also what kind of distance to you run between the...

Re: Prop Clearence

I knew what direction the engine would move, but didn't know if the prop might flex as well. Its a brand new prop, I really don't want it to get into the transom.

Prop Clearence

I am building a 13' River Master w/ a Lacie Everitt built 520 and a 72'' NGQ. The prop tip is 2'' below the top of the transom and 2'' forward.
Is this enough room or does it need to go farther forward? It looks close to me.

Re: engine builders

It looks like a flat tappet cam to me. Roller cams normally have a more rounded lobe profile, flat tappet cams have more of a pointed lobe. Also, roller cams (at least high performance cams) are machined from billet, that cam is cast.

Re: Carb Question

Check the accelerator pump, maybe even add a 50cc pump kit and "tune the cam that actuates the arm for the pump. With the motor off, look in the top of the carb and push the throttle to wide open with one smooth motion. Look at the squirters and see what kind of stream you get. Changing the pump is ...

Re: Mazda rotary 13B

We ran one in a small hydroplane boat. (until it was out-lawed). We turned it 12,000 rpm, I think you may need a bigger reduction unit. The engine makes very little torque, thus the high RPM. You can get MSD ign. and also a special holley carb that injects oil into the intake. Also, the noise that t...

Rod boxes, stainless rigging, full cage, 4 seater w/ all my lard ass buddys, 45 gal of fuel and a cooler full of beer, food and ice. I was lucky my truck would pull it! But it was better than fishing from the bank.

Re: 427

In the casting #s D stands for 7 +4 = 74. Ford did not make a 427 or 428 worth having in 1974 or a Shelby for that matter.

Re: 427

If they are 427 ford motors you still may not have hit the lotto. Be very carful with the casting #s Ford was all over the place with them toward the end of production. If it is a 427 with tunnel port, or CJ heads the low end torque will not be there. Those were higher RPM motors. Ford did not built...

Please post the specs or pics on your combination. I am putting together a 14' Jimmy White and planned on using a 5.3 or 5.7 w/ a gearbox. Carb or fuel injection?

Thank You
