Re: BBC valve cover baffles

has anyone every run a puke tank on their airboat? ive been doin some research on this and it seems the drag boat guys like them, seems easy enough to build and very simple concept, ive heard about the 2 lines run just in front of the prop but don't like look of it. running a pcv setup now and after...

Re: BBC ROCKERS

gotta rem that airboat engines live in higher rpm ranges, why not go for roller tip rockers, imo they are better suited for this application, plus extra hp and less bind on your valve train....no question imo

Re: mid throttle vibration and hesitation

I got some tike on it this weekend picking up stands and running, ran through a huge rain storm Saturday and she never missed a lick, had to run 4k the entire way to camp, 15 miles to and from, never noticed excessive vibration or stumble, I would only notice stumble after letting off throttle and g...

skimmer: engine was dynode and has good AFR at all rpm, very well could be some bad gas that is the carb, I repitched the blades and it seemed to get better, im going run it tomorrow for opening rifle and ill confirm of less vibration hardtail: I have some 1 year old sensenich NGR 3 blades, haven't ...

went through all plugs, all tight, no arcing on anything, not rats, boat has 12 hours on it, all plug wires on tight and no movement during running, block is grounded, its a new issue as of recently

mid throttle vibration and hesitation

ok guys, I have a practically brand new 498 BBC and a 1.9:1 century belt drive and 80" ngr 3 blade prop, short hub, noticed the other day doing some testing on the trailer that it would "rumble more that usual" at around 2800-3000 rpm, ive checked everything, flywheel to lower belt assembly runs tru...

Re: What makes a purpose built Airboat motor?

its all a matter of usage, you wouldn't buy a prius to haul heavy trailer....ud buy a truck to handle the rigors of towing, same can go for an airboat engine, these engines live in the high rpm band for most of their life. everything has its place in life, a crate motor may get you out of a bind and...

I run an 850cfm quick fuel, runs perfect since day one, I know a lot of air boaters down here with built motors that run quick fuel, cant go wrong with quick fuel

Re: BBC Power Issues?

man with a 4 blade id consider a higher ratio, possibly a 2.5:1, do some research on your blades "sweet spot" and gear from there, just a thought, but very nice setup brotha

Re: BBC Power Issues?

i ran on old tired 454 with 2:1 reduction on a boat similar to jopete's, south la style work boat 14' x 7' iron head and 750 dbl pumper, bought new sensenich 3 blade NGR with short hub in 80" dia, could spin those blades with the old motor right at 1, would break free on dry at around 3600-3800 depe...

I ran a standard pcv system this weekend and not a drop of oil out the engine, shielded breather and pcv valve to carb plate and it worked like a champ, ill see how this runs for an oil change interval

Re: SBC 350 with overheating issues

do your basic checks and go from there. running that motor hot often will inherently crack the heads or blow a gasket, check for oil in coolant and vice versa, if you are uncertain about reliability that should answer your question IMO.....car motors are not bad, AC or CM require the same amount of ...

Re: SBC 350 with overheating issues

being that you are running a thermostat, your engine may be air locked.....try to "burb" the coolant and get rid of the tstat, run a restrictor washer, keeps engine cooler, and or just open water neck, my setup is similar to yours with the radiator at the bottom and a burb tank at the top, yes fresh...

Re: Power to weight

name of the game is torque, torgue spins the prop hp keeps it there, especially in a reduction boat, 18' boat is a big boat, also a flat torque curve is better for a boat and most of it under 5000 rpm is best for an airboat application, all boils down to what you are willing to spend IMO, BBC rac pa...

Re: 80" ngr setup

just got off the phone with Darren at sensenich and we both agreed the 2.3 to 1 would be the best for my setup and if I would go to a 4 blade in the future, he told me adding pitch would help and adding a 2.3 would help, also that tip speed on these blades are more for the LS guys. I know every boat...

Re: Which motor?

I just rebuilt a 454 iron head to a 498 purpose built airboat engine, ill tell you this about it, a lot of the seismograph companies down here in south la use 454 crate engines, iron heads hold the heat better when "stuck" and wont warp, but they are heavy, my motor destroyed a lifter with unknown h...

my engine builder told me 20-30hp with the bigger primaries and long tubes give you a lil more torque, nothing really noticeable on the boat but on the dyno yes, plus they have the cool factor haha, youl notice more push with a diff gear ratio
