Distributor Timing Advance

If I'm understanding what I've read here correctly; why does everyone say it's best to disconnect the vacuum advance from the distributor, and run a static distributor timing when an automotive engine is used to power an airboat?

I'm pretty much lost on this...

Re: Airboat for humanitarian work

In all fairness to the original poster, I will say that he PM'd me that information, simply stating that when doing forum type research he preferred to not put their name in the spotlight, which makes sense. As that is his decision to make for whatever reasons he may have, I don't feel it's my plac...

Re: Battery

I always run on both, same as my outboard boat.

Of course, they're wired parallel. Not too many 24 volt systems in use today, outside of the military...

The hull is an 18X8 (plus two foot grass catcher) aluminum with no poly. We run over rock and oyster b...

Re: Having trouble starting in cold weather

I have a dual feed 750 Holly with manual choke that I keep locked open with a zip tie on the linkage.

It cranks and runs no matter what.

Engine is a 425 HP 454 Edelbrock crate moror.

Re: Top airboat manufacturers?

Floral City Airboats is another manufacturer that you should check out.

They're in Floral City in SW Florida, and do some pretty good work.
