Texas Pics

Never got my airboat running this season but the rebuild is underway. I still managed to scratch a few ducks and trout out with the use of my 4 wheeler and prop boat. Last weekend was my last of duck season due to the fact that I will spend the next 5 days in Mexico. Felt like posting a few pics of ...

Re: Texas Duck/airboat pictures

Pics look great. The wind was doing some tricks on us this weekend down there. Me and some buddies hunted not to far from you judging by some of your pics. Believe it or not we had better hunting in the evenings. Even put a two person limit of trout in the boat Sat morning. Looks like yall had a gre...

Re: Low Oil Pressure

Sorry for the late reply something came up and i had to go out of town. I measured the groove and it is .0015. The discolored area in the pics is raised .0015. If I buy new bearings will it get me where I can run it or am I wasting my time? I am going to start looking for a used running motor to swa...

Re: Low Oil Pressure

I dropped the oil pan and removed the rear and 3rd bearing. The crank has a definite raise section from the groove in the journal. Or i guess it has two worn down areas with a raised section in the center. I know this is not the way to explain this but I hope yall can undersatnd what I am trying to ...

Re: Low Oil Pressure

Thanks for the advice guys. I will replace the mains this weekend. Never done it before but going to tackle it anyway. You have a good idea Crowhater. I think I should look into rebuilding a 2nd motor in my spare time. If nothing else it will give me an education. What do I need to replace the mains...

Re: Low Oil Pressure

I have no idea how many hours on the motor. I just bought it 2 weeks ago and only ran it once. When I bought the boat I didn't test drive it. I only ran it for a few minutes on the trailer. I was told everything was in good mechanical condition. I don't know if the previous owner knew about the prob...

Re: Low Oil Pressure

I have a sunpro manual gauge. I tried another manual gauge and recieved the same reading. I am using 40 wt oil with a Wix filter. I used the gasket that came with the Melling oil pump.

Re: Low Oil Pressure

Thanks for all the suggestions. I put a new pump in it, checked the by-pass, and primed the pump. Same thing happened. As soon as it hits around 160 degrees the oil pressure starts to drop. Is it worth me dropping the pan and inspecting the pick up? Any one know a mechanic that works on airboats aro...

Re: Low Oil Pressure

Thanks for the info. The engine is not new I should have said that earlier. The rig is new to me I purchased it last week. When I start the engine its running at about 30psi at idle. When it warms to around 150 the pressure begins to drop. Unfortunately I noticed it while running around 3000 rpms an...

Low Oil Pressure

Well looks like I got a big problem. Took the new boat out and the caddy 500 is losing oil pressure after the engine warms. 0 psi at idle and 20psi at 3000. Took the filter out and cut it open, drained the oil but didn't find any signs of metal shavings. Next step is changing the oil pump today after...

Newbie

Hey Guys, Just picked up my new to me airboat and would like any pointers or advice anyone has for a new captain. I have ridden in several airboats but never been at the stick. I will be using the boat to hunt and fish out of in the marsh. I purchased a 2001 14X7 fiberglass boat with a 500 ci cadill...
