Re: caddy dd on a 12' 3/4 deckover

A buddy of mine tried a 500 Caddy on a twelve foot full deck and it sunk. The engine was way to heavy I think it was a Thurman hull, the sides and transome were very low.

I had a 0290 for my first boat also great little engine! Ran it for four years just basic preventitive maintainence, I had a set of points go and a valve seat drop. I think the comments are helpfull in the sale of items, and I would rather read through them than have the same people calling my cell. I sold a few items on this site and had a few comments made and low offers on what I was selling. 8) The only thing I would change is let the poster of the add be a...

Re: 220 top end rebuild

The only reason I said that is the only time I had to be towed in is when the mag coil dumped. I ride with the wife and my boy's and a second mag is just for dependability when rideing alone. My boat has two battery's and two fuel pump's for that reason...

Re: 220 top end rebuild

I did the top/end on my 220 a little over a year ago and went with stock parts. I was told the same, you can spend a ton of money on a conversion but it is still a 220. I have been running the same engine for almost ten years with no major issues. All my cyls are standard and stock pistons single ma...

If you do no have alot of pitch in the prop, your probably only running on five cyls. I have a 72 stump puller on my 220 with a 500 Holley single mag and it spins a 2800.

Re: fuel pump for 220 gpu

You are better off with a stock pump. When I bought my boat it had a automotive pump and a electric in line. It would run without the electric but not over half throttle. I spent $75 on a new stock pump and still have the electric as a backup. I haven't used the electric pump since I went back to th...

I run e85 in my 2011 F-250 and 87 pump gas and do not see my mileage differ between the two, I would notice a one third loss per tank. I think the truck runs better on the e85 and it's 104 oct. Watersports7 thanks for the link it was good reading, got me thinking of converting my 500 Holley on my 22...

Re: 500 Caddy stock horsepower?

Thanks for all your replies, it gives me more to work with to find the right motor. If I end up with a 472 I can rebuild it into a 500 with a different crank and internals, how expensive would that be? Or is it even necessary for what I would gain in horsepower and torque?

500 Caddy stock horsepower?

What is the horsepower of a stock 500 caddy? I am going to get one in the near future for a bigger boat. Are there any better year engines to look for? If so how do you tell them apart. Any info will will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Chris. :florida:

Re: Best low end push prop for AV motor?

I was running a 72x34 paddle on a single mag 220 GPU with a Holley 500 for years. I switched to a Whirlwind Stump Puller 72 when I had the top end done a year ago. The boat ran dry before but not like this, that prop totally changed my boat. After the engine was broke in and we had some riding on it...

It depends on what your doing, stopped to fish or riding in deep water. My boat rides great in deep water and I can stop and fish depending on how much wind there is. My boat is rigged tall for the glades and that is where I started airboating. I airboat around lake Okeechobee and in the Vero area a...
