Re: Tuning a Lean Running O-540 & 6AA / M5-4 Carbs

Tell me about the "copper gasket" thing. What is that supposed to do? BTW, after looking at your O2 sensor pics, I am not sure if your readings are accurate. My research said the sensor needs to be 18 -24 inches from the cylinders. That information was not for an aircraft engine, but for the system...

Re: 520 Continental rebuild

my neighbor here at the fish camp has a 520 gpu conversion with the holley setup and it is really sweet......fuel consumption is real good and acceleration is terrific...actually seems like a better application for the log intake system to me

Re: 520 Continental rebuild

if in fact your are 100% sure the engine is running too lean and needs more fuel then the only way to provide more fuel on the 4-5 carb would be to enlarge the main nozzle/jet....but like John said it is a time consuming job till ya get the results ya want cause ya need to drill in such small increm...

Re: 520 Continental rebuild

I would suggest an MA 6, use the aneroid to adjust fuel mixture by backing it out a 1/4 turn till plugs tan up. Or have a manifold built to hold a Holley 500 with #78 jets. Also, main jet in the 4404 can be drilled out, it just takes many R&R of the bowl to get it fatter, I would ream the pilot jet...

Re: 520 Continental rebuild

The carb was an MA-4-5.......10-4404....OEM 0-540 260HP engine....there is no bigger stock jet than the 47-779 that is in that carburetor that I am aware of.....it is essential that the l/r lever be in the full rich position at all times...and an adjustment of the economizer may help...I seem to hav...

Re: This is an O290 GPU , yes?

GMAC, mine was a question. Not as experienced as many, I’m searching for the proper answer. I’d love affirmation that my assertion was accurate. But if my guess is incorrect, correction is greatly appreciated. oh I totally understand your questioning I was just curious as to if there was something ...

Re: Who works on mags around groveland fl need Bendix 20 series worked on

complete overhaul using new parts, bench test, mounting gaskets and shipping is $185 per mag and you get all your old parts back....the only additional charge would be if the coil needs replaced but that seldom happens if ya have the bendix red hi output coils

check to make sure that the idle screws still have the little cork seal around them...if they are gone it can make a constant good idle hard to set....the renew kit will have them in it ....just a thought

the 0-435 Lycoming aircraft engine was used in an M22 LOCUST TANK ...developed in 1941.....not real sure when Mr. Frankenstein showed up but he is alive and well in the airboat world as is evident by this entire thread......lol

Re: timing mags/ snapping the impulse coupling

I think some of the 0-435 engines were actually used in tanks which would be a whole different ballgame I would think....this is a military numbered carb so I wonder if it was on a tank engine instead of an airplane engine....maybe someone else has that info cause it is certainly an oddball number t...

Re: timing mags/ snapping the impulse coupling

that is possible but the carb itself should be ok cause it is a 4-5 with the #187 throttle bore but the jet/nozzle may need to be bigger and the economizer tweeked...im thinking an 0-470 jet and richen the economizer just a little but damn if it run a g0-480 it should run yours...if it was me I woul...

Re: timing mags/ snapping the impulse coupling

if it run a go-480 without heating up then I would bet it is all right for your 435.....I was just thinking that there are several 4-5 carbs that would bolt right up but would not be enough for the 435 but if ya got a number that will tell ya what engine that carb is for and then there will be no qu...
