Re: Bored out 454 direct drive vs caddy direct drive

You have to go beyond .060 to get to 500 cubes. After .060 the cyl walls start getting thin for the heat and stress they make in airboats. Some 454s do have thicker walls though and might work.

Re: tell me how to build the best boat for 10K

Don't let the nah sayers get ya down. It can be done. The caddy or a buick can be bought for 5 to 700 you just have to look for them, there not gunna jump out at ya. And both those motors can swing a 3 blade with a 2-1 reduction, and the 2-1 is cheaper and lots of em used. Get on it and have fun!!

[quote] So doing a budget build is possible if you are patient and wait for the right deals [/quote
This is the key for a budget build. Don't over look a buick 430 or 455. They rank right there with the caddy and aren't as pricey. Can usually find em for 5-600 bucks

How much oil pressure are you making? Sounds like the oil pump by pass is sticking sometimes.

Re: whats going on with people these days?

You Yong guys don't get your panties in a wad. The new breed isn't anything to do with age, new breed of boaters is what I'm talking about. I've seen it from young to old. To many preppy yuppies have boats now and they can't be bothered to help.

Re: whats going on with people these days?

It's that new breed of boaters. Don't wanna be bothered with someone else's problem. There probably the first to complain about not getting help too.

Re: ALUMINUM HEADS FOR BIG BLOCK

At the very least you need to know what pistons are in the motor to make a choice. If you have dished pistons and get to big of a chamber your compression won't crap and you'll loose power, if there flat tops or mini domes and you get too small of a chamber you could have piston to head contact or c...

Re: ALUMINUM HEADS FOR BIG BLOCK

What pistons do you have in the motor? If there flat tops or dished pay close attention to the chamber size, you could actually loose power

Re: Needing more out of my ZZ454

I run a purpose built 454 and in my opinion don't got to a 255 or 268. A 2.3 ratio is a good ratio for a BBC. I have ran both ratios, broke a narrow gear box 2.3 and currently have 268 but would rather have went back with the 2.3. I run a 3 blade S on mine

Re: need coast guard approved tour boats

Most tour company's have insurance. And take the same risk every tour they take. The course is short fuel consumption would be low and money to be made doing what they do. With the amount of patrons this draws it would take a small fleet of six pack boats. Its a possibility but bigger boats do work ...

Re: need coast guard approved tour boats

Personal boats aren't. If I understand it correctly tour boats in non navigable waters don't have to be but since this is on the st.johns and it's navigable they have to be coast guard approved. I might have some of that wrong, I'm not a tour guide and am only going on what I was told. I know they n...

Re: Thank you to everyone for your help!!

Yes the deck over coming off the dike was the other boat that sank. Never did ask him how he did it,to buisy helping. He was actually in 40 canal. Sheriffs boat starter went out and he had to winch it up on the trailer. I gave him a ride to his truck.

10 bolt cover and one piece seal is a gen 5. None of the factory installed gen 6 motors had a milled out fuel pump provision, but some of the gm performance gen 6 blocks did. I had one.

Re: 454 Questions

I agree with whats been said except for the stock plugs. Stock plugs have and extended electrode and with the heat and constant strain it can cause detination. I use ngk plugs in my 454, I can get the number off one when I get home if youd like. Also I went with MSD wires and they work and last a lo...
