Re: Motor/gearbox/prop help

I have a stout 454 and a 2.68 gear box. I run a 3 blade S and it does great. Runs dry no problem, not the fastest but it ain't no slouch either. I had a 2.3 gear and it turned less rpm at cruise, I turn a lil more pitch with the 2.68 but didn't notice any gains from it. A 2.3 would be a better gear b...

Re: Indian and Banana River fish kill ....

Didn't mean that far south. Was talking about indian river down by sebastian inlet and south from there where the water moves in and out and flows. No doubt the rain and other thingshave alot to do with it, storm water run off fertilizer,sewage....., but it would help tremendously if they would open...

Ding ding ding!!! That's the answer. Notice it's not happening further south between 2 inlets. It's north of the flush zone!!

Re: 454? On DB hull

Like loud mouse said, there are mounts to put a ls motor on a BBC/sbc engine stand with out any modification. Depending on what year 454 your using it may save you some money. The newer gen 6 is a great plat form. The vortec heads are great heads for airboat and it's a factory roller motor. It's what...

I've never herd that. I was told the opposite. Never hear much of aircraft cranks breaking but have herd and seen alot of gpu cranks break. You could be right though, ive only dabled in aircraft and have alot still to learn.maybe one of the aircraft gurus will chime in and tell us.

Re: value of engine?

There's a guy, lycoming 1, selling aircraft 470 bottom ends for 1200.00 Couldn't you bore the case and put the 520 cylinders on it and have a true aircraft that would be a better unit and have a better resale value?

Re: 502 crate motor recommended upgrades.

Olf,since you last build a motor there has been leaps and bounds in technology! If your worried about 20 cents a gallon more for 93 don't build a performance motor. IMO it's just plain stupid to put that kinda money in a motor and not run 93. And if your dumb enough to buy gas at a run down gas stat...

Re: 502 crate motor recommended upgrades.

11:1 is doable on 93. With a custom cam,and a proper tune. It's on a smaller boat,15x8 not a tour boat, and a 2.68 box so not like its gunna strain real hard. Why is everyone affraid of compression?

Re: 502 crate motor recommended upgrades.

If it's aluminum headed you should do ok with 11:1 just dont let your tune get to far off or it will not be good,if it's iron headed then don't go above 10.1 or your inviting trouble. Depends on how far he wants to get into it. You could always bore and stroke it to a 540!! I have turned my 454 6k f...

Re: 502 crate motor recommended upgrades.

John, good high quality stainless 1 peice valve will do. But stainless intake and inconel (sp) exhaust valves is what I have in my 454 with no issues in 7 years of running. Don't forget to upgrade the keepers at the same time! I also have the S blades and 2.68 but the 2.3 gear is a better gear for a ...

When I did it it wasn't stock anymore by any means. I had upgraded rod bolts big sump oil pan better cam better pistons.... the people I know that have run buicks hard, they eat pistons. It costs ALOT of money to make them live at higher rpms, just like caddys. And the after market isn't very big for ...

Re: 455 buick

My old buick was a great DD motor. It would surprise alot of people with its dry running abilities. Then I tried to go gear box with it and did it wrong!! I went 2.3 gear and a 3 blade, turning 5200. It was a piston eating machine then!! Lol. They do well with the old school thinking, like a 1.5 to no...

Re: BBC valve cover baffles

There has never been any reason to turn them around and try it. It's worked without issue for 6 years. Buddy of mine had a small block with them in the front and had issues, turned them around and no more issues. Most engine builders send there airboat motors with them in the back so I did it and no ...

Rich,my boat doesn't suck any oil. The prop won't suck oil up the tube and out unless the oil is already being pushed up the tube the tube. But hey, think what ya want.

My breathers are on the back of the valve covers, the closer to the prop the better. It'll create more vacuum that way

What diameter is your 3 blade? The S blades are so wide that anything over the 3 and your just slapping air rather than moving air. There not like the R or other blades that do well over pitched. There has been alot of discussion about the S blades on here. You could do a search. But be pending on y...

Some property belong to private owners some to the state some st.joh...

I looked into the federal sign thing. From st.johns,it's nothing new . For them to buy it they had to list it as federal land for a pre determined amount of time to get some free funding to buy it. They, like we,can't wait for that to expire. But nothing has changed, I was told if ya went there befor...
