Scotty's Airboat build update
I made some good headway the past few weeks. It started by taking the boxes of ordered parts out of my house and strapping them on to my engine followed by a few hundred trips to the local auto stores  . There's about 4 stores with in 3miles of my boat and all of them know that I'm the guy who ...

Re: Early teal
I saw one lone teal crossing the street this morning during a massive rain spell we have had up here in north Florida for the past 24hrs. Also got confirmation that they made it as far as Missouri last weekend. Me and a few buddy's will be heading out to Dixie county this Sunday-tues to check it out...

Your website is a fine asset to the SA community..if only I knew how to interpret it all lol. The graphs and radar are top notch though. Everyone who enjoys Florida must respect the weather that comes with it.. cause it ain't all sun and fun everyday. Knowledge and preparedness are crucial

Re: Rugged Radios
That's outstanding customer service compared to my experience with another seller and brand. I purchased a Chinese manufactured quensheng radio on ebay and found after the first charge it killed the battery. Research done after the fact resulted in me finding numerous complaints about the is issue. ...

Re: Direct mount engine guages? No guage pod?
Hey Scotty, you are only about five min away from me. I am two min from the Pottsburg boat ramp on Beach Blvd. What you doing Saturday? I will be sleeping late after Gator hunting all night but after that I will be around. AirboatMike and I are going to go run his boat Saturday morning and do some ...

What side of town u on Belfort and JTB right off I-95. That would be great if you could swing by on your way home sometime so we can catch up. Hey I think the up-stack will look cool. Heck take it out the Top!! I have some new SS bullet mufflers you may want to look at too. You bet I do :thumbleft:

Re: Direct mount engine guages? No guage pod?
Are doing a upstack with those headers? I just noticed your picture. Jeff, For the time being I am going to keep the up-stack headers. I've seen that there are pro's and con's of doing it either way. Since I already have the headers I felt I had to make them work at least for the time being; and go...

Re: Direct mount engine guages? No guage pod?
manual temp and oil psi mounted through the floor bam and instead of the capillary tube or the brass that vibrates and breaks use barbed fittings and 1/4 inch hose its easy and works I like that idea about the floor mounted gauges and ditching the wimpy standard oil tube Bruce :thumbleft: . I think...

Re: Direct mount engine guages? No guage pod?
I really do like the idea of less clutter and wiring...I hate wiring and electrical rigging in general because even after a few gauges you have about a mile of wiring/senders it seems and even the slightest miss in a connection can drive a slightly competent boater insane not to mention that I think...

Direct mount engine guages? No guage pod?
Are any of yall running any direct mount gauges (I.E gauges that are atop or joined at the engine and not ran to a dash pod)? If so, where is a good place to purchase them? I don't want to have to deal with extra wiring, oil tube extensions, and other things that are required for dash mount electron...

Thank you all for your input. It took me 3 days to get back to jax from my buddys bachelor party in tampa (even though he called off the wedding we still went lol) I guess the upstacks are here to stay at least for the first few test runs!

Re: Weight of Ride Boat
Mine is a 13'6" cottonmouth and I think its prolly 550lbs in hull, polly and ss rigging for 4. And prolly 700lbs with sbc350 motor, rotator, engine accessories, battery, radiator etc. I'll try to get it on scale this week and post some more definite numbers as I am lousy at guessing on occasion ...

Re: Shorty Headers melting engine mounts?!
Alright guys, I took the headers off again and mounted them up-stack style. I had to bend my dip stick tube towards the block but I think I got it just fine with no breakage or other real issues. valve covers are still accessible with plenty of room for carb. At the moment I really like them up like...

Re: Shorty Headers melting engine mounts?!
U COULD FLIP THEM LIKE AN UPSTACK IF IT WILL ALLOW THEN U B IN BUSINESS Yeah I briefly did that mock up as well when I pulled the headers off earlier and if I can get the dipstick out of my way then I might very well go that route for the time being. I gotta check for valve cover and carburetor acc...

Re: Shorty Headers melting engine mounts?!
James- Thanks for the heads up..these huggers might be too much hassle to work with and I may need to consider swapping them out with some real airboat headers. I'll PM you if I bail on these but of course I don't want to take a loss on headers I already have. Dixiedog- Thank you for your offer..I w...

Shorty Headers melting engine mounts?!
I put on some stainless shorty block hugger style headers I got online on my build the other day and immediately noticed that the collector is really dang close to the engine mounts with poly bushings especially on one side where the engine mount nut might very well be touching the header. I know he...

Same thing happened to me back in 2009..I have had no choice since then but to accept the old saying about airboater's and sinking boats. It's bound to happen once. And you can either learn from it or let it happen again.. I was pulling into a spring and came off a plane quick in deep water (6foot) ...

Anybody swinging a big wood paddle prop on geared carmotor?
I have a rebuilt GM350 pushing about 325hoss's hooked to a 2.68 gearbox on a redone 13'6" cottonmouth hull. Is anyone running a big wooden prop with a similar power-plant combination? How is the performance? I want to have a good all around performing boat without spending a lot of $$$ on the p...

Re: New to Airboating
There's a bunch of ways to do what you want to do for under 30k. Aircraft is great if you know about them and feel comfortable with them but for me personally; it's not the answer. A lot also depends on what you can do your self in building the boat vs what you have to outsource when it comes to pri...
