Re: Performance issues.. need help/opinions!

Jeep are you referring to the pitch I'm turning? I thought it may of been low too but I'm not sure what would be normal.. Im suprised my hp would be that low, even though I've done some stuff to the motor. Granted it wasn't the most expensive engine build, but still lol.

Re: Performance issues.. need help/opinions!

It's a mild cam from summit with an rpm range of 1200-5400, hydraulic flat tappet. I'd have to look up the specs when I get off work. When I tried to calculate the compression, using online calculators, everything came up with about 9.8:1. The Pistons have four valve reliefs. They're the Speed Pro b...

Performance issues.. need help/opinions!

I guess I will start out by listing the problems and then listing things I think may be a possible issue, to see what y'all think. The description of my airboat is in my signature, if y'all have any other questions, please ask. I've never really been extremely pleased with the performance of my setu...

Re: Thermostat or restrictor plate?

I have a sbc with a gearbox and I was running a gutted out thermostat. It did fine, but when it got colder during hunting season, it would take forever for my motor to warm up. I was usually already to my spot before the motor had a chance to get warmed up. I am currently running a 160 thermostat. I...

It may not be as "conventional" as you're looking for, but an air quick connect works great. Get the brass ones and you won't have to worry about rust.

Re: Ideas on how to set up rigging on fiverglass

Can't really go wrong with using angle iron either.. I used about 6' of 1.5"x1.5" OR 2" x 2" angle for each stringer and then welded conduit to that.

I've got a 355 sbc with gear reduction and a 160 tstat. It stays around 170. After running hard, it may see close to 180. I havent had the chance to see what it does in the summer yet...

I use the "Skipper" app. It's free and does pretty good. I don't think you can track your buddy's like motionx though.. I may have to try it out.

May need to clean or rebuild the carb. Especially if you thought you had bad gas, it could be gummed up. Sounds like a fuel issue to me, imo.

Re: 10:1 compression on stock starter?

Just an update and maybe some info that may be helpful to someone. The starter I got from a friend crapped out. But I found a way to get a fairly cheap, decent gear reduction starter.. Go to any of the auto parts chain stores and ask for a 2004 Chevy Avalanche 2500 starter. The starter off that 8.1 ...

Replacing poly on an aluminum hull.

Just wondering what y'all's opinions are on whether I should weld up the old holes and re-drill new ones or re-use the old holes and nut and bolt it..? If I get the holes welded up (depends on if a buddy will do it or not), I can thread the bolts into the hull and won't require any nuts. It'll also ...

I'd say both.. Try it as a 4 blade and set the pitch to your desired rpm's. A 77in 6 blade is way too much prop IMO..

Re: Working out bugs on new build..

I'm still having problems with the timing. I installed the new curve kit with the new weights and lightest springs. Vacuum advance is plugged off and never used. I can set the total timing to what ever I want, but when I let it idle back down, the initial timing remains high and it's hard to start. ...

Re: Working out bugs on new build..

Yea it's a brand new prop, RH rotation. I think I got some of it figured out... We took the prop off and the vibration went away. So I'm guessing it needs to be pitched better. While we had the prop off, I set total timing to 34* but when we let it idle back down, the timing stayed at 34*. When the ...

Working out bugs on new build..

My build info is in my signature but I'm wondering if any of yall are running a similar setup and what pitch you're turning. I still have timing to fine tune but as of now, I have the prop set at C at 15 and I'm only getting about 4000 rpm's. On the hub, C 10 seems to be the lowest pitch setting. I ...

Re: 10:1 compression on stock starter?

Well I replaced the starter with a high torque starter that I got from a friend. It does the job. Still not as fast as I thought it would be but maybe it's just because this setup is new to me lol. I'm still going to try turning it over without the ignition wire and then maybe without the spark plug...

Re: 10:1 compression on stock starter?

First off, I want to thank everyone for the replies. I cleaned the paint off the motor where I attach the ground cable but I didn't clean the paint off where the starter mounts. I would think the bolt threads would ground it but I may clean the paint off there, just to make sure. Tomorrow I plan on ...

Re: 10:1 compression on stock starter?

Ok I checked the grounds and they seem ok. I tried to measure the volts when starting, but it fires off before I can get a reading. Last night I left the battery on charge all night, on 2 amps. Today it will start (multiple times) but it really struggles. Sometimes the starter will stop because it d...

Re: 10:1 compression on stock starter?

I'm using the same battery cable I've always had on my boat. I'll have to check but I think it's either #2 or #4.. I'll work on measuring the voltage drop and while I'm at it, I'll clean up the connections better. My buddy is working on getting me a high torque starter. I have one I bought from a gu...
