Lycoming IO580 ....

Lycoming builds an engine designated an IO580. Has anybody ever heard of one being used on an airboat?

I had an MSD Marine distributor on my last boat. It was sealed, and the boat could sit out in the rain for days and still fire right up when I wanted it to.

Re: Franklin Engine Info

I flew a Franklin only once, in an Army OH-23 Hiller helicopter. The Hillers were, well, different. As you might suspect the engine was mounted vertically, and they had a belt drive to the main rotor transmission. That was only once, and for about an hour five decades ago. Geez ..... where does time...

Re: Franklin Engine Info

Good stuff, Bear. The Franklin engines were an excellent powerplant ... they got short sheeted because Franklin lacked the resources to provide enough repair parts and tech support to compete with Lycoming and Continental. IMO one of the neatest features of them was that they all had a bolted-on pla...

Re: Rain all Day

They're saying that the Gulf Coast over here might get 2-5" of rain starting tomorrow and through Monday. Fine with me, I love rainy days, but the folks who we really need to keep in our thoughts are our buddies over in Texas ...... the Brazos river has never been as high as it crested earlier this ...

Re: Bushmaster or Smith & wesson

IMO it's gonna be pretty hard to beat the .223 and .308 style AR's they're building right here in Ocala, FL, the Core 15's. I've watched them being machined and assembled and they're a top shelf weapon. I had a Bushmaster in .223 that seemed heavier than it needed to be .... shot good though.

I like S&W for the resale value. Had a Bushmaster in .223 but it seemed to be a little heavier than it needed to be. Shot good though. JMO

Re: Cadillac

Let me tell you about that engine! It was recently run in an overheat by the person that JC had sold it to. My understanding was it slipped a lower radiator hose and cooked off. The gentleman had done some work on it himself but had issues with it and decided to leave the Cadillac family and go BBC...

This was my 4th year of trying. Sorry, Better luck next year for me. The KDNR does however thank me for my $ and say's it will be used for there continued elk program. NC will be friendlier for you for the next few years. There's a ski area there called Banner Elk. Check out that part of the State....

Re: Kentucky Elk season

Eastern KY doesn't have that much elevation (5,200 ft.?) but what it does have is a lot of food sources that elk love. That region (E.KY, E.TN, W. NC) is definitely gonna become a player for Elk hunting before too many more years.

Re: does anyone know the price of a blue lightning belt driv

Mr. Wine is an engineering genius, and as such often gets distracted by making something more complicated than it needs to be. In my humble opinion there were only a couple of very small modifications needed to the original Blue Lightning that would make folks throw rocks at the gearboxes. The last ...

Old fart, it is really hard to respect your elders, such as yourself, when you make comments like that. I don't require your respect. When you have lived long enough you will learn to respect certain timeless principles, not just old men like myself. The Ecotec engines are an interesting experiment...

Re: ECOTEC AIRBOAT CHEAP

Hmmm .... sounds to me like you Ecotec boys have finally figured out that an engine won't live forever at 6,500 rpm. Maybe that's why there are 0-540 and AV200 Lyco's still around after over 50 years. Screw gearboxes and high rev BS. Give me a DD something ..... A/C or car motor, and let's go to the...

Re: does anyone know the price of a blue lightning belt driv

They were designed by a gentleman by the name of David Wine. They are in my opinion the most sensible, practical, reliable prop reduction drives ever crafted for a GM small block, and they were available in 2-1 and 2.3-1 reduction. You might try to reach him at (863) 224-3193. If you do, tell him I ...

The original name of those boats was Spyda hull designed by Randy Dufrene from Bayou Guache there are two other guys that build them in Louisiana not real sure who made that one good riding little boats great for frogging I think Sears actually sold them for a couple years too, as a Gamefisher. The...

Re: Monroe Station burned down !

It looks to me like they are gaining control of all the water? At some point water will be more valuable than oil as far as controling the folks. Bubba, You and Gary are both right in my opinion. It's all about water, access, and control. Clean water is already more expensive than gasoline. Go to C...

Re: Monroe Station burned down !

Question. Why does any of this surprise anyone? Who isn't getting it that the Federal government is in a headlong rush to grab all the land they can lay hands on in central and South Florida? Why would they do that? Could it possibly be because the greatest oil and natural gas reserves in the Northe...
