Re: Electronic ear muffs

I guess my question is 'why would you need them'? I used to sit on plane at 40 mph. and talk in a normal conversational voice to whoever was riding next to me. Airboats don't have to be noisy, people, and usually the quiet ones turn more prop pitch. It's all about torque, and it doesn't have a dang ...

My old friend, you do know where the expression "give 'em the whole nine yards" came from? The ammo boxes at the waist and tail of a B-17 or B-29 bomber held exactly 27' of 50 cal. ammunition. Gitter done!!

There are only two kinds of people who hate the 2nd Amendment ....... those who hate your Liberty and want you to conform, and those who are so politically correct that they'd get pissed off if they saw you blow the head off of a moccasin that was about to bite someone. Fork 'em both. JMO

Re: 350 or 383

A factory GM 400 crank from early 70's would work very good and I think they are even better than these cheap new imported cast cranks. Real good advice in my opinion ..... GM 400's came with a real good forged crank right out of the box, and then you've got more crank mass (torque) and a 383 in a ...

Re: 350 or 383

I got a 350 board 40 over with a 1.7:1 reduction and love it. It keeps me from running thru a ton of gas and also it gives me enough thrust to get thru the unforgiving stuff. Im also running a 78" 2 blade whisper tip 2.0 prop That's a neat combo. Does your motor try to overheat at all? I'll bet you...

Whoa!! You're gonna need a huge reduction drive to get enough torque to turn a prop.

Can these run on pump gas? Wouldn't even know where to buy and hopefully I can get my money back out of the 084 first. Thanks for the thought/tip, Jim P.S. Some info/tips on the 0-235. Re: Rollbar's (Slow) Mini Build.

Does anyone have some dimensions/size on exhaust that they may have used w/this motor (4a084)? Wanting to build a header type exhaust and not sure of the size pipe and still function well/some back pressure etc. How eaten up are you with the idea of dropping this engine into your boat 'as delivered...

You don't sound like an idiot to me ..... that's a legitimate question. A lot of the answer you're lookin for has to do with how large your boat will be, and what kind of performance you're expecting from it? Give us a little more information please.

Re: Exhaust, I am sure this has been discussed, but

I just put a crossover pipe in my boat. The exhaust note is cut in half. Amazing isn't it? People think that running around with open exhaust or 'el cheapo' mufflers is cool. They don't realize that they're killing their engine's exhaust valves, and probably leaving some higher prop pitch settings ...

Re: Are AGM batteries suitable for airboats? If so, which o

P.S. Since I was a kid and still to this date I run Deep Cycle marine batteries in all my Jeeps and cars. I use them in my boats and I buy them from WalMart. Never had a problem. Never needed the new newfangled Optima or, I just run WalMart deep cycles and ride. Pretty good cost savings as well-The...

Is there a section of this forum where I can tap into experiences others have had with the VW engines / prop combo's for this make and model of airboat? I am very familiar with VW engines having built 3 sand rails from scratch but have zero experience once you add a prop to the combo! There is a we...

After all is said and done the batteries and charging system on any vehicle may the most overlooked of all. They're expected to work every time without failure, and if they don't it's easy to start blaming the name on the case instead of yourself for lack of maintenance. I don't know much about this...

Re: Exhaust pipe

I just was over to Alumitec a few weeks ago if you need 2 1/2 inch flex pipe it is around $9 a foot and the band clamps run $10 each. When you measure your need, over calculate the turn radius as the pipe is flexible but more a sweeping bend. You just made my point. You can have a couple of solid p...
