Re: Iridium Sparkplugs in a 0520

The 14mm BCH 9602 is also listed as Bosch # HR 8 LII33U ,on the plug box, which is heat range 8 like the 18mm Autolite 386 (ie:18mm Bosch M8ACO per the cross reference chart). A lot of folks and engine builders use the 386's which are resistor plugs and solid core plug wires. It takes about 10,000 v...

Re: Iridium Sparkplugs in a 0520

I converted from an 18mm Autolite 386 heat range to the Bosch M8ACO heat range 8 per the chart below. To use the "long reach" 14mm Iridium Bosch with a heat range of 8 i used the BCH 9602 . Possible spark plugs: NGK: A6 NGK: AB-2 AC Delco: C86 AC Delco: C86S AC Delco: S85F AC Delco: C87 AC Delco: C8...

Re: Fogs Lights, Flood Lights

I mounted two 100 Lumens LED Spot lights down low on the weed rack. They are about 28" above the water and work good in the fog. They were only $24 each including shipping.

I run with a head light also but turn it off in the fog.

Re: Iridium Sparkplugs in a 0520

This is the 14mm dehydrator you install in the plug hole when the boat is inactive for a month or so. The beads turn pink when they have absorbed moisture . You just remove the beads and heat them up with a heat gun or in the oven and they will turn back to blue for reuse. It only took about 3 weeks...

Re: Iridium Sparkplugs in a 0520

The plugs are Bosch # BCH-9602 fine wire Iridium. I got them from Summit Racing for $4.95 each plus shipping of $9.95 for 13 plugs ie: $5.72 each...one spare for the tool box. Advance Auto wanted $7.48 including sale tax. The extended sparkplug adapters item # 8FS-E-4TS were $5.65 each including shi...

Re: Carb Icing

This is a better link to the Will Rodgers heat pads. http://www.blujay.comT/?page=profile&profile_username=bikemagic2 I also installed pads on the oil pan to preheat the oil on cold mornings. I use a timer to run the 120 volt pad to heat the oil to about 160 F . I also use a 12 volt pad if i have no...

Re: Carb Icing

At Lake Okeechobee last duck season on a cold 35 F humid morning i starting losing rpm due to carb icing. The carb was covered with ice. The moisture in the air and fuel will freeze and build up on the venturi section and throttle plate. This restricts the air flow and causes an over rich condition,...

Re: Iridium Sparkplugs in a 0520

Thanks for the note about using the inserts for 8 yrs.

I am installing extended reach inserts and will use 14mm, .750 " long reach plugs. When not using the boat i will install 14mm dehydrators in the top cylinders to control the moisture.

Re: Carb Icing

I didn't think to try the beer cooler idea. :banghead: On the performance issue of alternator loading, each 70 watt pad draws about 6 amps for a 12 amp total load @ 140 watts. You can use whatever size pad you want. I haven't had a chance to run the setup in cold weather but i did a test run on a 92...

Re: Oil saver- separator

Moroso p/n 85465 breather can. The air exits thru the air filter on top of the can so you don't have a hose attached.

At 40 hrs my engine is now not using much oil like during the break in.

Re: Oil saver- separator

I have a fresh Stanley 0520 with Gitsu Cylinders at 40 hrs. No blow by or oil use etc. but i want to monitor the engine condition and keep any blow by in the can. So i installed a Moroso breather can as shown in the picture. It has an internal baffle...stainless steel wool...exit air filter...drain ...

Re: Iridium Sparkplugs in a 0520

TIGO541,
What type 14mm plug are you using..iridium,platinum or standard copper...? Do you know what 14mm plug would have the same heat rating as the autolite 386...? And did you go with "long reach" steel adapters or copper...? or just the short reach steel or copper...?

It's been a long time ago and i sold the boat and now have a JC Stanley aircraft 0520 with Gitsu Cylinders and a aircraft HA-6 carb. But i will include my notes of the final 1405 carb trim i ran on the 220 GPU. It was a little rich but it ran good. #15 Rod .073x.047,12"hg spring,1-3/4 turns@idle,top...
